Jade Goody dies today

Jade Goody has died at the age of 27, it has been announced.

The reality TV star passed away in her sleep at her home in Essex this morning following a battle with cancer.

Speaking to reporters today, Goody's mother Jackiey Budden confirmed: "Jade died at 3.55am this morning. Family and friends would like privacy at last."

Goody was diagnosed with cervical cancer in August last year. In February, she was told that she could not be cured after the disease spread to her liver, bowel and groin.

The former Big Brother contestant waged a public battle against the illness, speaking regularly to the press about her treatment and symptoms. Though her decision was controversial, the publicity has led to a sharp increase in the number of women coming forward for cancer screening.

Her publicist Max Clifford told Sky News: "I think she's going to be remembered as a young girl who has, and who will, save an awful lot of lives."

Recent newspaper and magazine deals also allowed Goody to secure the future of her young sons Bobby, five, and Freddie, four.

Clifford added: "She was a very, very brave girl. And she faced her death in the way she faced her whole life - full on, with a lot of courage."

Goody first rose to prominence by competing in the third series of Big Brother, which aired in 2002. She was also followed by cameras for her own reality shows and appeared on Celebrity Big Brother in 2007.


I'm so sad she died on mothers day but shes a very brave women to go through what she went through.

Yes I just read about it also. I know we were all expecting it but it was still so sad and shocking to read about
It's awful how much she had to go through and how much she suffered.
My prayers are with her family.

I was very angry with the way she dealt with it - selling her story at every opportunity.
women all over the world go through cancer and they dont recieve half as much support as Jade got.
But it is sad and my thoughts go out to her boys

I feel really sad about this. She had a terrible start to life and a terrible end. I guess there were some good bits in between though and her legacy will be that she influenced a lot of people to go for smear tests.

brighton_4ever; I know what you mean but she was using her status as a "celebrity" to make money for her sons and nothing else, I dont know about you but If I was famous and in the same situation I would do the same. Iwasnt a fan of hers but I admired her courage with batlling cancer.

I do appreciatte that thousands of people suffer cancer each year but dont get publicity about it, it isnt fair but thats the world we lve in.

No offense at all,but i just remember her from an articles on the biggest Swedish newspaper(Aftonbladet) and that she was in big brother,saddenly got cancer and later sold the "story and photos" of the wedding to the papers.Sorry for the lost for Jade but i did not get this story.Sadly we cant ignore the thousands and thousand each month that die of cancer.
