Spammers: BEWARE

To all of you who have a freewebs account,

You might want to consider changing the settings of your guestbook from "public" to "member's only"". This is what happened to me as I my guestbook was set to "public" prior to this..

Yes, my guestbook spammed pages after pages with this. For the last thirty minutes I have been sitting in front of my computer delecting the messages one by one, but I'm giving up - at least for tonight..

Maybe Tony found out about me replacing Zanne as GM at the moment, or maybe he read my other thread and found out my priority as a new GM is to tackle spammers and cyber-stalkers.

I don't know, but surely this has made my hatred of spammers and stalkers greater then ever. For those of you who have been spammed or abused by cyber stalkers, I do feel that I truly understand how you felt now.

But trust me, Tony and all the other spammers, stalkers and abusiers out there - you will hear from us soon!

I don't know how freewebs works, but isn't there a possibility to include CAPTCHA in your guestbook? Because this enables entry by spam-robots, because your pictures looks like your entries where done by such a spam-robots.

Still with CAPTCHA you would need to type in a word or number everytime you made an entry.

At my site I had days with hundreds of spam entries, and after I've been on vacation I had over ten-thousands entry and just deleted my guestbook, but my new guestbook has CAPTCHA included and I didn't have a single spam-entry so far. But like I said I have no clue how freewebs works and how the setup is but this is maybe something you could look into.

I'd encourage the use of CAPTCHA as well, it's simply too annoying for a human spammer.

It seems to be a good thing to keep our freewebs and other sites private and not post the links on here for the moment.
