Making sure the stamps on the envelope with your address are American (or stamps of whatever country the venue is in).

I'm not sure how he deals with VV because I know some people save all of them til the end of their tour then answer them all but i know i have sent him once VV in the US and didnt hear anything and I have sent to every arena on his UK tour that said they pass on fanmail and havent heard anything
