How do you create really fancy avatars?

You use GIF animators to do them. If you go to http://www.download.com you can download trial versions of different softwares Do a search on "GIF animator" and see what pops up

I suggest you use Microsoft GIF animator to animate them as it is really simple as all it does is animate the pictures but then use some other image editing program to make the pics. Thats what I do, but then thats just my opinion! Try out a bit of everything and see what you like best!

Yes ! Or if you are lazy for doing this ( like me ) go to the siggy shops or avatar shops on fanmail !

Yes, the trial versions are free They work for 30 days and after that they stop working. After that you can buy them if you like. But they are very good at practicing and getting know GIF animations

Oh yeah, also, do the pictures have to be uploaded onto a CD before I can upload them? Because I tried it once and I was SOO clueless lol.

No they don't have to be uploaded onto a CD. It is enough just to have them on your harddisk (in your document folders)
