Hi Everyone!

I was wondering if anybody here on fanmail.biz has gerbils. They're small mice-like rodents with tufts on the ends of their tails. I have two. They're called Venus and Serena.

They are seriously cool and are great pets. Does anyone here have any? If you're thinking about getting a gerbil. Then I'd strongly advise you to because they are loads of fun and are very clean and don't smell :lol:

Here they are:

Hi Hangman {up}

Gerbils are cool :D

I used to breed them when I was younger, and the other great thing is about them is they rarely bite :lol: Also, you can keep small groups together (same sex ;-) ) without them fighting {up}

They do love waking you up at night though (if you have them in your room), or at least mine did, playing on their wheel and chewing their bars!!

Your gerbils are adorable hangman! We used to have a hamster, but sadly it passed away :(. But we have a chinchilla now, which I love to pieces {love}. Rodents that don't smell up the place are awesome {up}!!! Maybe I'll try to get a picture up of my little Rusty soon ;).

Your chinchilla is so cool elmomommyto2 Image Are they really quick? I often see chipmunks for sale, but the just move around their enclosure too quickly!!! If they ever got out I'd never get them back :lol: My dad kept chinchillas when he was a kid. Unfortunately back then though they bred them for their little coats . . . . if you know what I mean :(

But speaking as a "Gerbil professional" for a moment :lol:

Yours don't look very old hangman. Maybe 3-6 months? Are they both the same sex (I'm guessing from their names that they are both ladies :lol: )

My best bit of advice for a good night's sleep is to put the cage in your closet at night, or at least in the top shelf of your wardrobe :lol: That way you can close the door on them, and get a chance of sleeping whilst they are chewing!!!! That's what I always did :lol: Just make sure the door doesn't close airtight :?

I have got to tell you the coolest thing I did with my Gerbils . . . . .

I got a big fish aquarium (3-4 ft long) and filled it half-full with peat/compost pressed down really hard. I then put 4 or 5 gerbils in there (with the aquarium lid on!) and they dug their own tunnels and made a Gerbil city :lol:

It was fantastic to watch, and they lived in there for years. All I had to do was add some more bedding material occasionally, or stick in some newspaper - which they shredded up. Every week or so they dragged out their old bedding to be chucked away.

You can watch them digging their tunnels through the glass sides, and it is a really cool (and pretty natural) way to keep them if you have the space ;-)

Your "furry babies" are sooooo cool! Look at their ears. They look really funny! :D

Yeah, my gerbils are very young. About 5 months old! And yes, their both ladies :lol:

I might try that "gerbil city" thing you did, but i'll have to get an old aquarium somewhere ;-)
