Honestly, I don't think you can compare a solo artist against a band m.c fan! Elvis was around for a bit before The Beatles, and they both had equally important roles in shaping modern music. I like some of Presley's songs but he's no hero of mine, first and foremost because he didn't write his own songs. Thats very important to me when looking at musicians. I chose The Beatles as I love the majority of their songs, and they composed their own music. They had lots of character too, and if John Lennon were still around today, I think these lazy modern celebs would get more involved in political and human rights crises'. Would John Lennon let the tragedy happening in Zimbabwe go unnoticed? No! The Beatles influenced all the bands I enjoy today, and songs like 'She Loves You', 'Happiness Is A Warm Gun', 'Twist And Shout' and 'Hey Jude' are personally better for me than anything Elvis has done.

Got to stick to my heritage -Beatles all the way baby. Elvis was alright, but a lot of his stuff sounds a bit dated now. Most of the Beatles stuff still sounds good. Plus they really did know how to write some amazing lyrics.

The beatles, by a few light years, dont get me wrong, when Elvis was young, he had a great singing voice.
But when he got older, (as if 42 is old?) he sounded, more and more, like a pub/bar singer.
Also the beatles did loads of types of music. There was something for everyone, babes to nans.

I thought I was the only person who felt this way

Elvis had a great voice when he was younger (notable on songs like 'That's Alright Lil Mama' and 'Hound Dog') but as he got older he lost it completely. And he went all country and gospel-like, my two least favourite genres in the world

The beatles were good but Elvis had a way better voice than paul and i think elvis had the best voice ever in the history of music and nobody has ever come along with a better voice since which is what makes him the king. Dont get me wrong i like the beatles too but Elvis wins hands down as the greatest singer that ever lived.I think jerry lee lewis deserves more credit than he gets because he was pretty awesome too back in the day and so was chuck berry.
