Ok..do you think I should?
Ok. So, I'd really love to be in the London Olympic games in 2012. I am thinking about taking volleyball class next year for phys. ed. and might even try out for the volleyball team in my school. The thing is, I always feel pressured, like if I let people down on the team and the pressure with school. I don't know.. I kinda am bad in volleyball, but you know what they say, if you keep trying, you'll be good at it eventually, right? Do you think I should?

Don't worry, I'm worse than you, I can't hit the ball
Seriously, don't worry. Pick a sport that you enjoy, and keep practicing. It doesn't matter how good you are at first, you will always improve, and try not to hurt yourself! We'd hate it if you did that. And always enjoy it, have fun, and laugh when someone falls over. If you don't enjoy it, don't do it. (Just like I hate this song I'm putting up with, so I'm going to skip it
)
Don't worry about making mistakes either, everyone will make them at one point.

Re: Ok..do you think I should?
Thanks. I really do seem to enjoy volleyball. I'm not gonna try the other sports like all-around, long jump, etc.

Re: Ok..do you think I should?
I'm going to go against the grain here.
You basically have 3 years (until 2011, to be in consideration for a place in the 2012 team). So you have 3 years to get to a world class level to compete in the 2012 games.
You've already said you're not very good at it, so do you think you can go from "not very good" to "Olympic class" in 3 years?
If yes, go for it. If no, then, well, dont.

I'd say go for it. Like other people have said, what you need to do it practice. The harder you practice the better you get. And you never know where you could end up. If not the Olympics this next time around, practice some more and try again the following time.
I'll tell you what, you can really do a lot if you set your mind to it. My freshman year in basketball I played but didn't get much recognition because I was only a freshman. My sophomore year I blew out my knee and was unable to play. My Junior year we didn't have a girls basketball team. But this year, my senior year, I worked my a** off in practice and games and now I've made the summer All Star Team for this summer. (They pick 12 girls off of 15 teams to be on the All Star Team and you play summer games and college coaches come and watch you play). Basketball was my sport and I wasn't going to quit no matter what, and I trained in the off season too in order to improve. So a few words of advice; Don't give up, don't let what other people say get you down, work hard and train during the off season.
Good luck!

wow the 2012 Olympics? I could see if you have been training for years and years they maybe you'd have a really good chance but I'm not sure you can do it in threeish years. Maybe it's possible but most people who train for the Olympics have been doing so most of their life but good luck.

It's very possible. Liu Xiang from China did it. They said he was terrible in 2000 and look at him now, he won a gold medal in '04. I think anything is possible. 3 years is a lot of time..hey, maybe I might play volleyball for college.Andy316 wrote:I'm going to go against the grain here.
