Hi,
as sex_is_not_my_enermy suggested, we need a way to keep people from abusing email address. I would like to proprose my suggestion:
I belive we should only make the email assesible by logining in, this way, the mods can keep a log of whos frequently assesing the email address, and maybe futher actions such as blocking that IP address from the forum should be taken.
What do you think.
Thanks,
Jason.

Re: my suggestion regarding email address
If you are saying what I believe you are saying, I disagree.
I understand that many people decide to make more than one account after being banned, but there are some things that need to be considered.
1. Many friends of mine don't even have their own email addresses, for they share one with the entire family. More than one family member could make an account using the same email. For example: Say Jack and Jill are brother and sister. They share an email address with the family. Jack decides to spam the website and do much nonsense. Jill, very inncocently, is blamed for being Jack's second account. Do you see what I mean?
2. People have this ability to make many email accounts. You could have one to Bellsouth, Yahoo, AIM, and Hotmail. So it really wouldn't work.
I think what we need to think about is that there are people out there you are pollutants to our website. They do what is wrong and we know it. Truthfully, we don't run across those people too often. If our great moderators continue to clean the website from those people, then we are actually okay. -Citrus

Re: my suggestion regarding email address
citrusgirl, I dont think thats what he's talking about. I think he mean you should have to be logged in to veiw the e-mail addresses. but I dont think it would work because we have no way of knowing whos veiwing what topic, much less keeping track of the members that veiw it, did you know theres over 8000 members now? I know alot of them are bots or multiple accounts, but it would still be impossable to keep track of

So you're saying it should only be accessible to people who are logged in? That wouldnt really stop any abuse, as people would just make an account an log in.autos.jasonw wrote:Hi,

I dont think theres a way of tracking who's viewing what, either. And as for IP bans, there are numerous ways around it that make it almost a pointless option (Based on experience from many forums)

Oh okay. Sorry. It was late when I wrote that and I was really tired. Sorry for the confusion. It was an off day anyway.

Hi,
I don't know about the fanmail.biz system, but isn't there a way to block ones IP address, and not just their accounts?

Yes, and if we had a nickel for everytime we've debated this in the mods forum...autos.jasonw wrote:Hi,

Jason,
The problem with IP bans is that there are some ISPs (Mainly AOL) that assign the same IP address to multiple users. So by banning the IP address we would not only remove the person in question but also other users on the same address.
