Should we have rules for Autographs For Sale / Exchange

Unless Admin. is willing to put someone(s) in charge of this forum and give them free discretion as to what is and is not permissible nothing will change. More and more so called new members are coming on here posting bogus autographs. My fix is have 2 U.K. members that have knowledge as James and andy316 and 2 U.S. members. Between the 4, via PM's and Emails amongst the 4, I believe the members on this site would be better protected. I cringe when I see what's going on in that forum.

I don't think there should be any rules. When you decide to engage in a trade online, you are taking a big risk. There are more problems on this site that we should be worrying about. If you want to trade, you should be able to. Just know that you are taking a giant risk in doing so.

what's more of a problem than being scammed out of your own money from someone who is selling fake's.
i definetly vote for rules to be put in place, too many people get scammed with fake autograph's and not having these sort of rules would increase those numbers.

Yeah, but it's your choice to trade with people you don't even know. I don't think there will be any rules to stop people scamming people. Because of this, I think we should let it stay as is, or just delete it if it bothers people that much.

There already are rules in place now, quite strict ones too...

I made a similar thread months ago, here are 2 of my 3 ideas from back then (the other wouldnt work) and a couple of others. I'd like to see it deleted altogether, but its not going to happen...

1) Make it a rule that any autographs you're trying to sell/trade MUST have pics/scans of them posted in the thread. Far too many threads have no pics, and members are saying (PM/email me for pics). The fact that these deals are being done in private worries me, as it implies that people are selling/trading FAKES. If they were authentic, why wouldnt they just post pics in the thread?

2) Have some Moderators specific to the sale/trade forum. This would enable the obvious fraudsters threads to be removed ASAP. When someone is offering (for example) an "Authentic Johnny Depp signed index card" for $4, you know somethings wrong. But the inexperienced collectors will PM that guy immediately thinking they have a bargain.

3) "Believed secretarials" can NOT be advertised as "authentic".

4) Every autograph for sale/trade MUST be accompanied by WHERE/HOW it was obtained. In-person (date/place), via venue (where/when) or TTM.

For me, #1 has to be done. There is absolutely no excuse for it not being a rule.

None of those will stop people from scamming. Here are my responses:

1) It is extremely easy to put a picture from the internet on a thread and claim it as your own.

2) This won't do anything. Just having a Moderator patrol the forum won't stop everyone from posting fake autographs.

3) I don't see the point to that.

4) People can make it up.

1) It isn't ludicrous. There aren't any ways we can eliminate the scams. Because of this, why are we spending so much time on this topic.

2) Okay...There are rules in place right now, but in case you didn't notice, people are still scamming.

I do, however agree with one thing you said. Just get rid of the forum. The only way we can REDUCE (not eliminate) the scams on this site is to delete the forum altogether.

3) Secretarials are fake. Therefore they cant be advertised as authentic. How can you not see a point?

1) It IS ludicrous. You said there should be no rules. Thats ridiculous. I dont even need to debate the logic of it.

2) Like who? I havent been in the forum lately, but any obvious scams are deleted.

But yes, getting rid of that section is the best idea, but it'll never happen unfortunately.
