Delete topics instead of Locking them

Unread post by legendwithoutaname »

It is so much easier and Cleans Up the boards.

I would send the OP a reason why it was deleted also.

I'd be fine with this, but only for topics that have been covered dozens of times. The Collecting Help board is full of unecessary topics that have been cover numerous times. You would think new members could browse the board before posting a topic that has been covered already. I would never agree to delete feedback though. I would hate if someone deleted a success I posted.

I delete some 'EDIT: NOT QUALIFIED TO SELL' topics in the Autographs For Sale/Exchange fourms. I think it would be great to delete all of the double/not qualified to sell topics but I think it would take hard work :)

Because it would force people to check the forums first before posting. We could also send a PM informing them that their answer can be found elsewhere. It will mean more work for us to start with, but less in the long run (as people start to get the idea and do some work for themselves for a change! :))

I like this idea.

I like the idea of deleting the topic and sending a pm to the poster. I have completely stopped commenting on topics that have been covered dozens of times. I feel like a broken record repeating myself so many times. For this reason it might look as though I don’t visit Fanmail much anymore, but I visit just as much as I have in the past, but I just refrain from commenting on these topics that have been covered already. I think we should take this idea into effect immediately.

What I mean is, it is often quicker and easier for the user to so the search themselves, rather than wait for an answer from a mod, to a question that has already been answered a hundred times. We're here to help you, but not babysit :) I'm confident all the users here can use the search function but unfortunately it's become the norm to ask a question without even searching for themselves.

In regards to the actual suggestion, thinking about it, it would save us mods time. One mod would PM the poster to point them in the right direction. At the moment, someone posts a question and 3 or 4 might respond, as well as regular members, all with the same answer. Which is slightly pointless, really. One quick PM and it could all be sorted.
