We all have seen them before. They is a lot of bots spamming the forums. New users SHOULD have to complete one before submitting

A CAPTCHA or Captcha (pronounced /?kæpt??/) is a type of challenge-response test used in computing to ensure that the response is not generated by a computer. The process usually involves one computer (a server) asking a user to complete a simple test which the computer is able to generate and grade. Because other computers are unable to solve the CAPTCHA, any user entering a correct solution is presumed to be human.

I think this has been suggested previously.. unfortunately, suggestions just never seem to be implemented here. CAPTCHA would certainly prevent some spam here.

It's really such a shame that these ideas aren't implemented and probably not even given any thought.. they cost nothing, they improve the forum and they only take a couple of minutes to install.

This was put to admin 3 years ago numerous times and his response was that it would slow down the registration process for genuine members, and was not needed.

It was put to him again when the forum had a very big problem with a real life spammer who was sending numerous hate PMs about a year ago, and he gave the same reason, but also added "just ignore him".

That about sums it up really doesnt it? {down}

Disappointing.

A CAPTCHA is going to add like what.. 5 more seconds to the registration process? That's no excuse at all.

Even if those 5 seconds are so darn precious, there are always anti-spam options that won't interfere with the registration process. A heuristic or blacklist-based hack would at least deter away spambots.

5 seconds to prevent spambots is one worth taking.
