OK, So I Was Thinking That In Your Profile Section, Where You Can Type In What Your Interests Are, That Instead Of Them Just Showing On Your Profile, When You Click On Each Interest It Takes You To A List Of Users Who Also Share That Same Interest. Like They Do On LJ (Livejournal.com)

For Example, Click On This Link:
http://community.livejournal.com/mkaolsen/profile

Scroll Down To Where It Says 'Intersets' & The Click On One Of Them & It Will Take You To A List Of All The Usernames That Are Also Intersted In That Particular Interest, If That Makes Sense

That Way You Can Talk To People Who Have The Same Interests As You, Which Will Be Especially Good For The Newbies..

That's an interesting idea

I am not sure how practical it is though as it would involve a lot of adaptations to the way the current board works

In the meantime there is no reason why Junior Mods / full Mods can't start up a thread in their respective forum to discuss their hobbies, likes/dislikes etc.
