possible solution to the great email debacle!

Unread post by RobinTreksPeru »

hey guys !

ive come up with what could be a possible solution for the constant queries for email addresses.

i think we have all agreed that listing email addresses is a no go so how about we introduce a bit of moderation a la the 'request an address' section.

how about anyone looking for an email address can post a request on the request an address forum (or indeed we could make a forum for email requests) and i would get back to them (or indeed another moderator, im just saying me because i would love to moderate this).

the limit would be one request a week, the answer to which would be sent by PM to the member who requested it thus preventing everyone looking at the forum from bombarding the email address with requests.

if you guys think this is a good idea then i will post a sticky on the request an address forum and we can let the fun and games commence. i think its a positive move for the forum as it would lead to people looking for an address to have some help in finding it, would hopefully stop members constantly posting on multiple boards or atleast provide a place for everyone who does to be referred to while at the same time wont open up email addresses for abuse.

over to you guys...

best

harumph!
no one comment on my idea then. i was just thinking out loud i guess. if anyone has any comment do let me know, otherwise we can just keep on letting people know that they should hunt for email successes.

Hi there!

Well, seeing as I don't do a whole lot of e-mailing for autographs and I don't do a lot with that particular discussion, I didn't feel like I should have replied. But your idea does sound like a very good one to me :D.

incidentally, doesnt look like it will happen anyway, despite support from certain factions, admin doesnt seem to think this is a good idea.

of course, its my fault really, i should have realised that spammers could access the fanmail PM system.

rp...

the whole 'can we list emails on the forum in a list or will they be flooded by requests from people who just want a signature or susceptible to spam?'

i thought this was a way around it. clearly i'm wrong.
