Signature size & content

Mr Kennedy (Andy316) started a topic about this in Forum Ideas, basically saying that certain user's signatures are far too large, or that they have too many banners/graphics in their signatures. I agreed with him that it's very annoying to scroll past all of that, and also that it must be horrible for people who have slow connections.

After talking to admin about it, the following is to be implemented :

a.) if you see a user with a banner that is inappropriate or far too large, please PM them asking them to remove or re-size it.

b.) if this user fails to comply, admin says he should be PM'd with the username, and he will remove the signature immediately.

Thanks

I've also found this annoying- a one line post like "Good Success!    " which is then followed up by a wallpaper sized banner. The things is, is there a set dimensions they can't exceed- otherwise there are a few, that I might think are just too big, but others don't.

Hi Michelle! ;-)

Thanks a lot for this info - I agree 100% with this rule. {up} It annoys me too when some members have a siggy with 3-4 banners in it! I already have a slow internet connection, so sometimes it just "blocks out" and the page won't load.

Thanks!

There have been rules about this in the past, but simply members do not listen. We have tried enforcing for members only to have 1 signature (writing below or above is fine), but it failed.
By all means bringing this up again is a good idea initially, but I honestly don't know if members will truly listen in the long run.

Thanks everyone {up}

I think the only way it will work is if we actually enforce it, i.e ask a member to remove it, if they don't - follow up with admin.

Can anyone suggest dimensions they should not exceed?

I think there signature should not exceed a size of 600x300 - that includes graphics, text and anything else.

Also, if members ignore the rules for mutiple times, he shall be banned from Graphics Shops.

Thanks Jason, 600x300 it is then! I'll post a topic about this in the Graphics Shop now, informing members of the new rules.

Admin won't do anything about making a member cut down on the number of signatures or the size of one. There are more important things to deal with then to get him involved with this. I mean you can't warn or ban a member for that kind of thing...

While I like the idea of a limit- because even though it doesn't mess with my load times really, it's still a nuisance. The problem is 1) enforcing it completely and 2) figuring out if someone is exceeding the limit... I used MWSnap and set it to 600*300px {it shows a 600 by 300 pixel box so you can take snapshots} to see if people's signatures (image, text, links, etc) would fit... and even a few people's in here were extending outside the lines.

-the only thing I can figure is if we only ask members with crazy large signatures like: GavinJWakefield (26 lines of text)
