Are Religious Topics allowed?

Hello Everyone,
I was wondering if Topics dealing with Religious topics are allowed. I logged onto the site today to find 7pms angry at the topic Darwin put up. Some light jokes were tossed around about the Bible and a few people did not like this. I know this is a free board but i was wondering with just touchy subjects like this, whats okay and whats not?

Hi Chrissy!
I say
NO.

I know there are members here from almost all religions over the world, but none of them ever post a new topic here about muslims, catholics, christians, etc., so why should this Darwin2880?

It is offense to do so - you hurt others' feelings, it's as simple as that. I saw that topic and it really hurt me, but did I reply to it or post a new topic about my religion? No. Religious topics
always get out of hand.
This is a fan mail forum, so lets just keep it that way. {thumb2} No politics, no religious topics, nothing controversial.
Besides, that Darwin2880 has caused many trouble before - he disobeys board rules and admin told me to IP ban him, so that's what I did - he's just plain trouble and likes to cause a stir here.
Thanks,
Liz

Agreed with Zanne. There are plenty of forums for discussions about religion. It always leads to fights. It shouldn't be on a fanmail/autograph collecting forum.

Zanne,
I agree with you absolutely 100%. It is a VERY touchy subject that people do get VERY hurt about. I have been asked a few times to delete the topic as it seems to have made some people very angry.
I myself am a Catholic and did not enjoy the Bible comments. This like this should in my opinion not be on the board.
Darwin as rudely asked me to reopen the topic as it was devoted to the "Greatest Man alive". His pm was sort of a threat to me.
I think if anything i will delete the topic. Whatever happened to civilized talking and politeness.
He has now posted a very RUDE and irrational thread about the moderators on this board who are non-believers. Stating that they have no freedom of speech. Obviously he doesn't see the harm it has caused. There are forums about religion for a reason. I am at 12 pms today about this member.

Just ban the dude. He's only looking to start a fight and to do some Darwin preaching.

Thank you Chrissy and guilder1st.

I am also a christian, but I would never, ever bad-mouth muslims, atheists or anyone else - it is low to do such a thing, and religion/religious orientation (atheists too) is supposed to be very important (the most important thing in your life), so slamming others is extremely rude and very, very hurtful.

I was very hurt by the comments in that thread, but as I've already had my arguement with that Gary, I decided to just leave it (but was glad to see it has at least been locked - thank you Chrissy!).
This Darwin2880 is Gary's 3rd username/account here - the previous two, Gary2880 and Gary2881 have both been banned.

He's a very rude guy and has sent me awful pm's too.
I banned him now for a 3rd time and I also IP banned him (2 of his main addresses), because I'm really getting sick of him (I know admin agrees with me).

Just let me know if he returns somehow (it should be easy to spot him). {thumb2}
Thank you all & have a great day!
Liz

I think the General Discussion forum in theory should allow members to talk about anything they wish to. However, in reality, members from this forum just aren't mature enough to discuss sensitive topics in a way that will not cause friction or disrespect to others.
I agree with you guys on this, when sensitive topics get out of hand they must be locked or delected.

Now Andy (Mr Kennedy) can't understand why Chrissy deleted that "Darwin" topics (see
this topic)...
If it stayed clean and not hurt other members here, I'm sure it wouldn't have got deleted. But certain members just can't control themselves, it seems.

Thanks, Jason. {thumb2} I agree the "General Discussion" forum is for any topic, but we have to draw the line somewhere. I mean, this is an autograph forum but even in the "Autograph Collecting Discussions" forum members may not comment on e-mail addresses, quick replies, authentic signers, etc.

Rules are everywhere. And this forum is not the place for religious topics, period. You are just looking for arguements and if we allowed that topic, then we must allow religious topics for all the other religions too (muslims, catholics, etc). It won't work.
Anyways, a bit off-topic, but has anyone else noticed that the entire banned list has been cleaned/removed/unbanned?

Also the IP Ban list. This is worrying, as now
all of those we banned before can come back again... And they were banned for a very good reason.

It is for the safety of the members on this board that certain people remain banned (remember Tony? Perhaps 1DirXtion???), so we need to keep our eyes open for any suspicious members...

zanne

I also noticed that and I'm really worried about it. I'm guessing admin unbanned them all but for what, I don't know!

I've already seen spammers I banned back on here, and the member 'ryco' (who posts fake successes and attacks other members) is also back - I did another ban on him but he's got gazillions of accounts so...
Does anyone know if admin responds to PM's? Every time I ask him a question he just ignores me

This is a disaster! Now all those spammers and fake-sellers are going to return.

I guess someone who got banned e-mailed admin, so admin simply unbanned the whole lot?
I guess the only thing we can do at the moment is to keep an eye out for the spammers, and just IP ban them so they don't come back (yet again!).

zanne
