Encouraging new moderators

Hi Mods :P

Whilst it is a great idea to spot those moderators who no longer post on a regular basis, it is important that they are replaced rather than just "terminated" . . . . !

All I would say, is that a LOT of posts still go unanswered on the forum every day, so whilst we are spotting the people who no longer contribute can we all look out for prospective new moderators?

i.e. Members who post frequently and have something postive to contribute.

Some of the mods we have now are people who I approached last October/November when we had moderator/expert push. Remember that not all good candidates will approach us for a place, sometimes we can get some great mods by approaching members ourselves, and asking if they would be interested. Believe me, if they are not interested they will tell you so!

Just a thought :P

Thanks Chrissy & Christine :P

I just think it would be good to be pro-active and choose some good posters to be moderators, rather then have to wait until decent candidates ask us

Hey Ian :D

Great idea! I think that would work really well.

However, I was just wondering something:

If we think that a prominent member/poster on the forum would be a good moderator, should we contact them and ask them if they'd like to help out? Or should we post about them in the moderators forum and ask the opinions of the other moderators first?

Once again, I think your idea will really help!

I like the idea Ian. Like you said, we don't want to sit around and wait for new moderators to come to us. We need to go to them.

I believe that before we approach a candidate, we should make a post in this forum to ask the other mods opinions. After all, we need to get the other mods permission before we make a new mod anyway.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree with you Daniel {up}

I think the best course of action would be to make a post in here first, and outline briefly why you believe they would be a good candidate.

If the feedback is good then they should then be approached.

However, I don't think it would be necessary to wait for all moderators of that particular section to approve them before they are approached. If the consensus us gernerally YES then that should be good enough.

As you say, they will be run past all the moderators if they decide they want to join.
