What happened to the other three thousand members?

Unread post by lutherjw »

If I remember correctly, before the forum was updated there were about 9000 members. At a quick glance, I noticed that there were now about 6000 members...

Did we lose some in the upgrade process? Or were there that many spam bots?

I guess it was a portion of inactive accounts.

If they were bots, which I resume they were, it is scary to imagine that one third of our members were spam bots!

I would have to agree with TheMailman, they probably were inactive members since there were many who registered but haven't ever posted.

If they are bots.... thats all i have to say

You're probably right. (BTW: Congrats on your 2900th post, Chrissy!)

Does anyone know who the other bots that are online are? There's a Yahoo one as well as others, :?

James :)

James: The Yahoo, MSN, Google, etc. ones?

They're search bots, or web crawlers. Search engines create bots to gather information from new pages added to websites, and they periodically browse the Internet to add things to their respective search engines. That's the best I can describe it. :)
