Do you approve of selling non-autograph related material?

Unread post by elmomommyto2 »

Peyton's poll made me wonder how everyone else feels about selling things through fanmail that aren't autograph related (i.e. the fanmail.biz T-shirts, pakman's selling of magazines). I'm very much against this kind of thing and I hope it hasn't opened a huge can of worms by everyone wanting to sell and running into the same problems as with the selling/trading autographs (scammers, members paying and not getting merchandise).

I don't agree. I think that the forum, AUTOGRAPHS for sale/exchange is pretty self-explainitory. I also hate recieving PMs asking me to buy stuff.

I actually voted yes, I like to buy pictures and stuff so I can send it to be signed. As I don't have a photo printer, and I don't kow of any decent magazines in the UK to get really good posters, where as in America you have things like Bop, Tigerbeat and M.

what elmomommyto2 meant is selling stuff NON Autograph related. The items you are talking about are related because they are photos you can get signed and things like that. But people who sell magazines that are nothing related to autographs just gets on my nerves.

I can see how the t-shirts aren't autograph related, but I personally don't see anything wrong with member's selling magazines or photos. Both of those items can be used for autograph purposes. I have seen many members sending magazines/magazine photos to be signed to celebrities. So, that's my opinion..

I don't mind about the magazines part, I just don't know what the T-Shirt has to do with autographs....Did Fudgemonkey even got Admin's permission?

Fudgemonkey did get admin's permission to sell the T-shirts for 3 months time. Unfortunately, pakman now bombards everyone in the chatbox to try to get them to buy magazines for his school. He doesn't say "Hey, buy magazines for your autograph collection"...he goes with "Hey, buy magazines for my school". Well, maybe someone will be selling chocolates, popcorn, etc. etc. for their school next time. I can definitely see selling photos as autograph-related. But I wanted everyone's input and if the vote comes out overwhelmingly in opposition to selling, to see if we could sway admin to discontinue the practice of letting any member sell anything.

To me, it's ridiculous to have members selling non-autograph related material. We have enough problems with scamming in the Feedback and Trading/Sales forums and I don't want to see any members get scammed on "get money quick" schemes. For example, what if Fudgemonkey collects his money and then decides he's not going to actually buy and send the shirts? I guess that's just too bad for the buyer. What if he collects his money and for some reason he can't get the shirts printed, so he just leaves fanmail? I'm just giving a few examples of why I think selling non-autographed stuff is such a bad idea. Please feel free to continue with giving your opinions too :).

This is my opinion...

I feel that it is okay to sell things like Pictures and Magazine posters and such through fanmail because i find that it helps a lot of members who can't either afford to professionally print pictures or don't have the proper printer to do so.

I don't think selling T-shirts for example to be proper as it's just a t-shirt and you can't really send that off to celebrities (Unless you really wanted too) I also find selling your ipod(Which i have seen on here) and other material things to be improper and just done to make a profit.

I don't have any problem with people selling pictures or magazine pictures unless they are pming me 4 times a day or so asking me if i want to buy their stuff  THAT'S what drives me MAD! I've had about 7 people now, some repeated users pm today alone asking me to buy their things when i'm obviously not interested
