Was I right or wrong here?

A member made this thread - http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic ... 032&hilit= - which included listing many home addresses of hockey players. I asked him to remove the home addresses, he refused, so I removed them and asked him not to repost them.

He then sent me this PM -

So was I right, or wrong, to remove the home addresses? As far as I knew home addresses were not permitted to be shared on this forum.

The PM itself I took to be rude and aggressive, but I'm ignoring that at the moment.

I think you were right. Home Addresses should not be allowed to be posted unless the celeb doesnt mind.

If they on another public forum (as he said) I think they are fine. If the player did not want his address on the internet his management would probably search it and get it off. I think this is alright.

It depends on the player's preference. Personally, I'm not sure. It really depends on how they feel about it. Home addresses are in several cases bad for posting. I remember reading one post that someone posted the home address of an actress, and someone actually went to her house. The posting of home addresses can and in some cases will lead to stalkers.

As for the PM, that member should receive a PM about rudeness. You are as much of a mod as Zorin, and should be treated with the respect of such. You didn't overstep your bounds in any way. You were just trying to do your job which you were given by admin and all the mods on your team. He had no right to talk to you like that.

Andy, I believe these are official team addresses.

I had this with another member, who asked for home addresses, and I said that we don't post them for privacy reasons. He then went to admin who apparently said that they can be posted :? Which I don't agree with.

Well I'll PM him back about the rudeness of the PM in a sec, wasnt sure if it was just me who thought that!

I know I've read on here before cases where home addresses have been removed, and members have been told not to post them.... I'll PM admin and ask him to post on this thread so to help clear up the "official" stance

Andy and everyone -

For now, I personally recommend that you all allow him to post the addresses. Unless Admin says otherwise or asks for their removal, he has every right to post them.

I do not like the rudeness/attitude of the member and how he treated Andy... but in the meantime, I personally think that he should be allowed to post the addresses unless Admin asks him to remove it.

(Andy, you definitely did not overstep your authority. :))

Hi everyone :)
Where you got them from is irrelevant, it is against forum policy to list home addresses, and as you won't remove them, I have removed all of the addresses which are not "via team" addresses. Do not repost them, thanks.
I think you overreacted a little bit Andy316 + It's not against the forum policy ;-) Home addresses are ok if the celeb doesn't mind.
