Member Starc - advertising on the forums?

Hi everyone :D

I noticed this user Starc while I was browsing and replying to a thread.

Firstly, I think from memory it's against the rules here on the forum to advertise another similar autograph site such as fanmail.biz {down}

Furthermore, I do remember reading somewhere about advertisers/spammers "posing" as regular members of a forum to advertise their product/service. I have seen this happen on other forums, and sometimes these posters can be rather subtle in their approach. Luckily, apart from the spam I don't think I've seen a member which fits this description. However, I do believe Starc is like one of these members who is not a genuine member but rather an advertiser advertising a competing celebrity autograph database on our forums.

Therefore, I think it may be a good idea to ban and remove this user from our forums. What do you think?

Hey nowandagain :)

It is only against the rules to post links to autograph websites that also have a forum. To my memory, StarTiger does have a forum. :|

For those that don't know, StarTiger was formerly StarArchive, which is now a pay site. I was once a member there, but left when they switched to a pay site.

Since this member is actually posting useful information, it might be helpful to send them a PM explaining the rules, instead of just banning them.

For now, I've gone ahead and removed the last part of their messages, and I will be PMing them shortly. Depending on how they respond, it may be necessary to ban them.

admin or Ian does need to remove their signature, though. :wink:

Hi Joel :D

I understand what you mean, but I'm trying to say that Starc may not be a genuine member, even though he/she is posting information that may be helpful to members.

The point of Starc posting on the forums is more to "advertise" StarTiger rather than helping members.

Great work Joel {up}. Lets see if they do respond to your PM
