Check Your Team Members. Contact "Non-Posting" Members

Unread post by rpbluesman »

I think it would be wise that all of us go through our team members (both Trainee and Full Moderators) and send PMs to all the inactive ones. If you don't get replies within a week or two, make a list here and we can contact admin for demotion of said members.

Here's the general PM I sent to the 5 Trainees I have that are inactive.
Hello There

It has come to my attention that you are among one of 5 Trainee Moderators currently in my team that have not been active in the past several weeks, or in some cases, months. Being active on the site is essential for all moderators, and in order to be successful you must be online and post. Simply stopping by without posting does not help.

As a result, if I do not hear back from you within a week (February 22nd) I will contact admin and discuss the possibility of demotion.

This can be permanent or temporary. Being human myself, I understand that unexpected events and circumstances can and do come up. So should you come back on and inform me of the nature of your absence, a simple word to admin from me and you will be re-promoted.

As for now though, please head this PM and get back in touch with me ASAP.

Thanks

Hi rpbluesman :)

Great idea {up}

Don't you think your PM sounds a little too unfriendly? ;-)

Not really. I think things are getting a bit lax on here and if I just say something like "post when you can, thanks." That doesn't get the message across.

I've gone through all my moderators and TaeBee16 hasn't been on since Mon May 28, 2007! I'll send her a PM.

As far as Trainees I've contacted matskulainen as well who hasn't been on since Sep 2007.

I have contacted those who haven't posted in a while.

But to be honest, I don't think that this system is working out very well.

Although it may have seemed as a way to solve all problems in the beginning, the TM System really isn't living up to its expectations. I know that quite a few of the moderators are frustrated with it, and with the number of mods who have quit in the past few months, I do think that this site is starting to slide dangerously downhill.

I'm proposing that we scrape the TM System completely. Many people sign up to become a TM on their first day after joining the site, and then after posting once or twice, they leave, never to come back again. I think that the JM/TM System is the cause of all this disorder and as some mods have put it "lack of rules". This site has over a hundred staff members, including TM's, and other sites this size have around 30-40 and run just as fine.

Instead of hiring mods year round, perhaps we could put out applications or something when we needed to hire more. Even the system that we had when I joined two and a half years ago was better in my opinion.

Well those are just my thoughts...

I agree that the TM system needs to be done away with completely. And most of the moderators concur on this.

This is just something that isn't working out like it was planned. At the very least the TM system should have some sort of qualifications to get into it. Not just join Monday and then Wednesday go "Can I be a TM?"

And I don't like the rule about having multiple accounts. What's the point of letting the member keep three or four accounts? Yeah, it makes the site look more active, but is it really a good thing for the site when a member has 3 ghost accounts, and all are TMs?

Just an update: I just checked and all my TMs and moderators are pretty active around :)

Cernan, I agree with you. No offense, Admin, but the forum has really changed since I joined back in 2006. It now seems overrun with immature kids :?
There are a handful of exceptionally helpful TMs who take their position seriously, but the majority are just... blah (i can't think of the right word for it!). It's also becoming irritating how so many moderators are complaining about some of the TMs. Then again, it always seems to be the same people complaining each time.

Just a thought-- I think it would probably be better if Global Moderators vote on whether a user can become a TM or not, with Admin having the last say. This way, Admin can see input and comment from Global Moderators, which will help with deciding who is qualified to become a TM.

I'm not sure if that made a whole lot of sense, but hope you all get the main idea!

- Josephine

P.S. Since I'm posting here already, I'm just going to add this little tidbit: I'm starting to get a tad annoyed that BABii_ANG3L is constantly scoping out the Feedback forum. Seriously, a user will post a success and a few seconds later, she signs online, enters them into the $10 drawing, and signs off again. Thus, she has been the winner of the $10 Moderator certificate for the past 3-4 months or so. I really think she should back down and give the other moderators a chance. I remember after I won it the 2nd time, I gave others a chance :D
Am I the only one who thinks that way?

The only two Moderators / Trainees in my team that have not posted recently have been KellyMBel (last post 2 September 2007) and Taxi_06 (last post 1 November 2007). I have not contacted them at this stage, but I think they are both candidates for demotion regardless of whether I do contact them or not.

I agree. The Trainee system is getting out of control and should be scrapped altogether. It's just not working right now. There are many issues with it and not enough controls set to deal with them. Some of the issues we've been having on the boards has been due to the Trainees.

I feel that at this point in time, reverting back to the old system would be better given the circumstances.

This is another issue that needs to be dealt with. It is not right to have multiple accounts (and wouldn't this be a breach of forum rules anyway?)

Just my two cents.

I know where you're coming from Josie. OK, I know some of you must have been a bit annoyed when I kept winning a while back (yes, I had more time then ... but now I'm working full time and doing post-graduate study at the same time).

The good thing about what BABii_ANG3L is doing is that replies in the feedback forum are being attended to promptly.

However, by the time we log on to go through the feedback ... they've all been taken care of so we're wasting our time finding posts that haven't been attended to.

It would be nice to give the other moderators a chance, but you can't exactly tell her to back down ... can you? It'll probably be a bit rude to say "you've posted too much, give the others a chance" in the nicest terms possible. Just give it a bit of time, as she can't go on like this forever ... What do you think Josie?

P.S. Regarding my previous post. I just wanted to add that many of the Trainees look more like they're there more for the status rather than with the specific intention on becoming a moderator. I am seriously doubting whether the remaining trainees in my team would go on to become Moderators. I just don't see the potential in some of them right now. The same must go with the trainees in your teams as well.
