Abolish the Trainee stystem?

Since I can;t seem to make it a poll, here's how this thread works.
Post here if you want to abolish the TM system. Simply revert things back to the way they were before the whole TM/JM system.
I am for this idea for several reasons
* There are NO REQUIREMENTS that a member must meet to be a TM. The only thing they HAVE to do is PM admin.
* Many of the TMs have multiple accounts (which relates to another issue all together) and continue to be told its ok to have multiple accounts that are all TMs
* From what I'm told, very troublesome members are allowed to be TMs
* The large majority of them are never going to be full moderators and yet are continually given chance after chance and while they continue to build back up into the pool of TMs, more are being allowed to dive in each day.
Those are my main reasons. I also have a few other reforms I'd like to see done around this site. Ian told me that he had a new re-structuring plan he proposed to admin. I'd be interested to see how it works out.
Please post your thoughts on the TM system, and whether it should be abolished or not.

Hi rpbluesman
There is no real difference between the actual system and the previous one. The only difference is that the decision to accept or not a new TM is made by the overall moderators

There is a difference. Before "Moderator Candidates" did not have Moderator powers, their own forum, and things were more straightforward. There have been a few instances of TM's abusing their power, and a while ago we even had a TM issue a completely unwarranted warning to a Moderator.
Right now there is no significant difference between TM and Mod, and although some have chosen to express this dissent quietly, a number of the Mods are very much upset by this matter. Individuals should not be given Moderator Privileges simply because they ask. On all other forums they are earned in a way.

I think we should make a list of all the jms and tms that are not active and get rid of them just like daniel said before. Then we should choose who should help on the forums and which like we used to. If they are trainee mods then how are they supposed to get better if we dont help them? Other than that I agree 100%

What cernan said is a good summarization of the issues with the TM system.
And what I don't get is that not only are all of the Global Mods (us) saying the TM system needs to go, but so is Ian and a good portion of the regular moderators. Why is there even an issue as to why it should stay. The points have been made.

Ditto

But I think we should go even further. We should definitely weed out those who are not active, but we should also compile a list of who, from observations, we think do not deserve to be a TM. Maybe that is "over-doing" it, but I do think it will be a great way to cut down the amount of TM trouble-makers.

Well take away the warning ability. That would be my first suggestion. Perhaps only give them the ability to edit and move posts. Don't let them lock or delete posts.
I still stand by the idea that the whole system should be scrapped, but if it is here to stay, then that's my suggestion

You already have the right to do that. After the 2 month period, you can decide to keep them or not. It's the actual system

Oh really? Haha, my bad. I always thought after the 2 month period, they either stay a TM or they get promoted to a moderator

Well, in that case, would I tell you and the TM that he/she doesn't deserve to be a TM? Would there be a nicer way to say that to him/her?

They can stay TM if they or you wish so.
If they do not post/help anymore, PM them and ask if they wish to keep their TM rank. You can also give them tips.
