I totally understand where you are coming from and wouldn't do that. I am going to be writing to Wicked! read the book and loved it. POTO I love the soundtrack and movie so much. Fame I've seen it before and loved it. Rent loved the soundtrack. That would be my main reason for sending to these. Of course there are many more, but I was listing a couple as examples.

Ok, I don't want to be rude, but this is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. Plays have only dialog- anything with music is a musical, not a play. :)

As someone has already mentioned, you can get addresses off of Playbill.com or BroadwayWorld.com. I always address my letters with "To the cast of...". On the envelope I also write "The cast of" and c/o of theater.

Most shows will answer you pretty quickly. I'm still waiting on a few, but 3 of my recent 5 have answered within two weeks.

Also, you really may want to listen to the cast recording before writing a show. Seeing a movie or reading a book can often be very different from the musical itself. It's like seeing a movie and then writing the author of the original novel saying how great the movie was and would they sign your paperback book.

Also, if you're really a theater fan, stage actors are usually very good about signing TTM and I doubt there's ever been a secretarial. I did get a PP once from Ann Reinking and I wouldn't be surprised if Bebe Neuwirth (who is coming back to Chicago very soon) or someone like Bernadette Peters does the same.
