As to what to send . . . I am at a loss. You could try doing some research on the net and see if you can determine his likes and dislikes. I have just been looking around and I can't seem to find out anything of use. Sorry!

Hi nightowl, sorry, only scanned the message as I was in a hurry - I know that he wasn't that keen on the Sound of Music, but does he sign Sound of Music pictures? I would probably send him something handmade, but I'll have to think! Wouldn't dream of sending anything 'valentine-like'!! Out of interest, what do you like him from? I have only seen him in the Sound of Music, and Closing the Ring. Love both!

The reason I mentioned the Valentine thing is . . . I read he made a comment that working with a "certain" actress was like being hit over the head with a great big Valentine's day card, every day! I don't know if that is true or not. But if it is it would only remind him of it.

As I have read he hates that movie I wouldn't send him a photo of it as it would only remind him of a very unpleasant experience. He referred to it as The Sound of Mucus. And those kids, lol. The little one gained a lot of weight eating ice-cream cakes all during the shoot and when it came to the scene where he had to carry him, and do the scene over, and over, he lost it and got mad. Apparently the girl that played his oldest daughter was only 13 years younger than he was at the time.

If someone didn't realize his distaste for the movie I would like to think he is kind, and gracious, enough to sign their photo anyway. But I have heard of celebs refusing to sign certain photos, for different reasons. Mostly because of E-bay---these days---but there are some actors that hate to be always associated with one role and not be recognized, or appreciated, for the many diverse roles they may have played. And yet there will be times they will sign those photos. I had heard Liam Neeson didn't sign Star Wars photos, due to e-bay, but I have seen him sign them on rare occasions. I had heard that Patrick Stewart wouldn't sign certain photos. And now I am seeing Daniel Radcliffe signing HP photos where he was known not to. So it's hard to say. It doesn't hurt to try.

But if you've mailed him a request, and provided him with a photo that you paid for, along with a SASE, I would like to think they would.

I've seen him in The Sound of Music, of course, The Return of the Pink Panther, Jesus of Nazareth, Somewhere in Time, The Thorn Birds, Dreamscape, Star Trek, Malcolm X, Wolf, Twelve Monkeys, Possessed, A Beautiful Mind, National Treasure, Alexander, The New World, Inside Man, The Lake House, I'm still waiting to see Emotional Arithmetic. I'm sure there are some I haven't mentioned.

Try and see if you can google his favourite hobbies, or something like that, to give you some ideas. His favourite colour etc.

Shame, I have already printed out my photos, and you know how much it costs to print them these days! But, as you said, it's worth trying, and I have made sure that I have balanced my letter, i.e not just written about the Sound of Music. I heard what he said about being 'hit over the head with a great big Valentine's Day Card' as well, nevertheless, Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer remain friends to this day!

Christopher recently released an autobiography. I was glancing through it at a bookstore. I found it to be quite good.

As far as gifts go, I wouldn't give him anything too cumbersome. He has to carry it cross the border. In my letter I wrote to him (I sent a previous SASE to his residence in the US), I wrote to him that it was his portrayal of General Chang in Star Trek that got me into Shakespeare. I was about 5 when I saw the movie when it first opened. Those phrases are burned in my mind forever. I felt that it would be nice for him to know that it was being a Klingon that likely inspired me to read Shakespeare's plays. I'm sure his character turned quite a few heads and got people reading those plays who would have never looked at them before.
