Congrats on your returned autographs! :) I love Chris Noth!

I have a question...I'm new at this...I've never sent for an autograph before, so I was wondering what I send in the envelope?

Do I have to include the picture or do I write asking for an autographed picture? I imagine I have to include one on my own but I was just wondering if anyone could help me out. :D

Thanks!

If you are sending VV (via venue = play, concert, movie set; some place the celeb will be) then the celeb is not going to have photos, and stamps, and envelopes with them. So you need to supply everything. Let's just say it is "extremely" rare when they do, and you don't want to take a chance they don't.

If it's a play you can ask for an autographed playbill. But most people want a photo. So you send your own.

When you write them you send a letter and mention what you've seen them in, what you liked about it. Be honest, and sincere, but not gushy. Try to keep it to one page. They don't have a lot of time to read letters. And then nicely ask if they could please autograph your photo for you. If you'd like it personalized be sure to ask if they could please make that out to you.

You need to include a photo. You can find these on the net under Google or Yahoo. Go to the main page and click on images and type in the name of the celeb you are interested in. Make sure to select extra large, or large, from Google, or wallpaper, or large from Yahoo. You want the image to print clearly. You can also type in the name of the celeb, and a movie they've been in, to bring up photos from that.

You need to buy photo paper for your printer. Make sure it is for YOUR printer. Then when you print it out, using the photo program from your printer, it should be the best image it can be.

To copy an image from the net you first must make sure it is the largest it can be. If you open the image and point at it a little plus sign will appear, or if you point to the bottom right corner arrows may appear. This means you can open it larger. When it is opened as large as it can go you then point at the middle and right click. A box will appear and you choose "save picture as". Then save. Now it's in your pictures folder and you can print it out using your printer's photo program.

You also need to include (in your envelope) a SASE (self addressed stamped envelope). This will be addressed to you. The celeb will put your autographed photo in it and mail it back to you. To determine the cost of return postage go to the post office and weigh the photo and return envelope only, and simply ask the post office how much that will cost to mail from the venue to you. They'll tell you and you can just put the stamps on right then. You can also put cardboard in the envelope to try and protect your photo but you must add that to your return weight.

For details and help on many topics go to the Collecting Help forum. There you will find a LOT of info and you can ask your questions. But first have a look through the threads at the top of the page. You also want to look in the Is My Autograph Authentic forum and PLEASE READ the lists of celebs that are believed to send out Autopens, Preprints, and Secretarials in there. The threads will explain what these mean.

If you are only interested in REAL, AUTHENTIC autographs then you MUST read those lists. You do not want to find out later and be hugely disappointed.

Hope that helps! {thumb2}
