I'm very excited to get what appears to be the first success from "Shrek: The Musical". I'm very excited about this... it has a stellar cast, has gotten pretty good reviews, and I love the movies. I got a signed Playbill and a very nice, handwritten note from "Shrek" thanking me for my letter and for being a fan.

Is it always signed ones they send, or unsigned ones?
Also do you get them from all the theatres in USA or just some?
As I've just got Equus and Speed The Plow signed ones up to now, I've sent for Wicked, You're Welcome America, Phantom Of The Opera and Pal Joey so far.

You can request an unsigned one, but many shows don't send unsigned ones. Primarily, it's signed ones that are kept backstage (with the stage manager), and unsigned are kept inside the front of the house for patrons.
National Touring productions in the United States mostly do NOT carry playbills. The theatres provide them, and if they are not fundraising, do not sign playbills generally. Elsewise, they don't carry them around from city to city. And you more than likely wouldn't be getting a "free" playbill that could be purchased as a donation for Broadway's charity BC/EFA.
Don't expect anything back from Pal Joey. Roundabout only does playbills for fundraising, in general. They are not for profit so anything they can donate obviously is for that. I'm not sure if YWA is actually doing them, but they very well may be doing so. Good luck with the rest.
