"Mary Poppins" "SUCCESS"

I don't quite know what's going on with signed Playbills at the New Amsterdam Theatre, but it certainly made me disappointed when I opened my envelope. At the end of October 2009, the roles of Mary Poppins and Bert on Broadway were taken over by Laura Michelle Kelly and Christian Borle, two performers whose work I greatly enjoy. I had tried getting them TTM before with no success, so I figured, as with all Broadway shows, a surefire way to get their autographs was to send out for a signed Playbill. I wrote a letter at the tail-end of December (after they had been in the show for more than two months) requesting a Playbill, specifically mentioning in my letter how I particularly wanted the signatures of Kelly and Borle. I was overjoyed when I received the envelope at the beginning of this week... only to open it and discover that they had sent me one signed by Scarlett Strallen and Adam Fiorentino, who I believe were the last ones in the show before Kelly and Borle. Suffice it to say, although this is a success, this Playbill has nobody's autograph that I want on it, and I'm a little curious as to why the New Amsterdam hasn't had Playbills signed by the current cast in about three months. Seems to me that if you get two brand-new leads you'd just put aside the stack of Playbills from the old leads and have a new one, especially several months later. Oh, well... that's autograph collecting. I figure I'll send another letter out several months after Kelly and Borle leave and see if I have any luck then.

They may not be signing, if you said you've had trouble writing to them individually as it is. I'd try to send to Laura Michelle Kelly individually soon, as I've been hearing some mixed things about her possibly leaving the show to film a TV show back in Britain!

This is unfortunately common and to be expected of Broadway shows, especially a show that doesn't receive as much fanmail such as Wicked, for example!

Hmm...I don't know why that was done??

Anyway, nice success.

I have had successes from the 2 previous Marys individually--Ashley Brown and Scarlett Strallen. They both took around 4-5 months, so maybe it has something to do with they are not getting their mail right away. I wrote to Laura about 2 months ago, so if I get something back, I will post here.
