They actually used the words, "You've paid for everyone's service, but not us!"?

Wow that's cold!!! They didn't have to say it like that! They could at least have been polite about it, and said something like: We're very sorry but Mr. Checker's autographs are $10. If you would like an autograph . . .

Wow! That explains why mine never came back. They couldn't even be bothered to be rude about it.

And for those that get all up in arms when people comment about having to pay for autographs, I am not saying he doesn't have a right to charge if he wants to. I just thought the way they went about asking for it was incredibly rude. {down}

that's really rude of them!

A man by the name of Hank Ballard wrote and recorded The Twist before Chubby did and Chubby stole it. Try to find The Twist by Hank Ballard & The Midnighters from 1958 and listen to it. Hank even sued Chubby for it. If you look for the story about it on the net it makes you not even want to be a Chubby Checker fan.

not trying to roast Chubby at all but its just how it is.

Chubby needs to appreciate his fans. At this stage of his near irrelavence in todays pop culture he should be ashamed to send something like that.

If a celeb charges so be it; but to send a classless note like that would make me lose complete respect for him. Not that I have any now, as mentioned above he's a theif. Had he not stolen that song he would be nothing.

I have to agree, I am afraid. If you were to ask all the members of this forum if they knew who Chubby was, I have a feeling many would have "never" heard of him.

So, for those of us that have heard of him, and are fans, to get a letter worded like that . . . ?!

I was VERY surprised to read this post!

I sent a request to him as well. If my letter does show up and has that rude note in it . . .

If it didn't cost money to post back I'd put another envelope inside the outter one, addressed 'sorry, here's your payment' and then either dog poo or coal. Santa is not pleased right now. :lol:

I got mine back today with the exact same note.

So . . . I went to his official website and left a message with his booking agent stating that there is nothing wrong with asking for money. But that I was extremely offended by the way in which they went about it.

Even if I had considered buying his autograph, I won't after having been asked in such a rude fashion.
