Q: What do people mean when they post that certain venues do/don't pass on fanmail?
A: When a celebrity is performing at a venue, people sometimes write VV to that celebrity. When they say that venues may or may not pass on fanmail, it means that once the celebrity is gone from that venue, they may or may not pass on the fanmail that was sent to that venue to the celebrity.

Ex.

• DO = Your Mail -> Venue -> Celebrity
  DON'T = Your Mail -> Venue -> Garbage or whatever they do with it

Q: If I tried to write a letter to a venue before the celeb performs and request an autograph with my postal address is there a chance of return?
A: If you're going to write ahead of time, you can always put a "PLEASE HOLD FOR (Artist's Name Here) UNTIL: -date of concert-" on the front of the envelope that's going to them.

Q: How long before a concert should I write to the artist/band I want an autograph from?
A: It depends on where you live and how far from the venue you live. Ideally, you should give yourself at least 1-2 weeks for it to arrive. If you live close (maybe) 3-4 days. But like I said, it depends. Always ensure you give time for the mail to arrive to the venue AND putting a "Please hold until "x" date" helps if you expect anything back from the celebrity/artist/band at the venue.

Q: Should I include anything along with my letter?
A: Yes. Always include along with your letter a picture/index card as it's very unlikely for the celeb/artist/band to have one on tour with them. Also, always include an SASE (Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope).

Q: When you say a venue does "pass on fanmail" do you mean they give it to the celebrity or ignore it?
A: When they say that they 'do' pass mail, that means that they will in their best efforts try to pass it on to the celeb. There is never any 100% guarantee the celeb will get it or reply.

Q: How would I write the address for a venue and where do I put the artist's name?
A: Ex.

Q: How do I find out if a venue passes on fanmail or not?
A: Do a google search for the venue you are wanting to send fanmail to (ex. http://www.rogerscentre.com/) then search the website for any information regarding their fanmail policy. If you can't find anything look for a contact e-mail/phone # to find out if they do/don't pass on fanmail. Then post what you've found in this thread so it can be added to the main "venues that do/don't pass on fanmail" list.

Reminder: Most, if not all Broadway theatres pass on fanmail. This thread is strickly for concert venues.

If a venue has been listed on the "DON'T" list, does it mean that my fan mail will never be forwarded to the celebrity, or does it mean that my fan mail will not be forwarded to the celebrity after he/she leaves the venue?

I would assume that it's both of what you said. If it arrives late to the venue, most will just toss it in the trash and won't bother forwarding it to their agency. Others might be nice enough to do so, however I think the chances are slim.

No i do not think so. I tried to mail to Steven Spilberg a while back but never heard from him. i know they did pass on fanmail nut notin lately.

YES! Pixar still passes on mail. There have been several successes from artists lately. {thumb2}

Ryco11757, there hasn't been a TTM success from Spielberg in years, either through Amblin or Pixar, but Pixar still passes on mail. I am 100% sure of that!
