being new to autograph collecting ( it seems much cheaper than coin collecting) I was wondering if someone could shed some light on studio fan mail. The forum mentions that some are preprints and some are autopen. Is there a way to list which are autopen and which are preprints. I have found on some if you lightly rub your nail over the signature you can tell a small indent in the paper as a sign of autopen.

Hi jtbull46,

Studio Fan Mail is a 3rd party company who are hired by certain celebrities to handle autograph requests for them. SFM is used by celebrities who don't have time to handle their fanmail/celebrities who can't handle the amount of fanmail they get & SFM is also used by celebrities who don't want to handle their fanmail.

Autographs from SFM are pre-prints & autopens but I've noticed that most of the autographs from SFM seem to be pre-prints mostly.

An autopen means a machine has signed the autograph. I know that Ben Stiller's SFM print is autopenned as the silver ink from the signature rubs off if you scrape it with your nails.

I know the Friends, Osbournes etc are all Pre Printed.

thanks
