How do i send to America?

Unread post by tyler_jrb »

Hi everyone, i have a few people in mind id like to send to in America for an autograph and was wondering what i needed to do to send the letter there.

I want to make sure that it gets there and all the postage is correctly paid for with the correct amount of stamps. i have a few questions about what i need to do to send them if anyone could answer them for me that would be great.

1. where do i get the international reply coupons, and which ones do i get?, and how many do i put in the envelope. And also where do i put them in the envelope? like in the large envelope or the SASE?

2. my envelope will be large so sending in the UK i would use a large letter stamp. What do i put on to get it to America like can i use normal UK stamps or do i have to get American ones. Its quite a distance from the UK to America so i was wondering how many do i put on each letter to get them there and back.

3. i have one definite person id like to send to but if i was sending to say 2 or three people at the same place could i put all the pictures in the SASE and write a letter to ask if they can all sign the different pictures or do i have to send them individually.

Thats all i can think of really but if anyone can help me that would be great, i plan to send these in the next few weeks so i wanted to make sure im doing everything right before i send them.

Thanks everyone! :)

Hi, sending internationally is really easy once you know how!

1. You can't buy IRC's any more in the UK. For return postage you need to include a few US$ 1 bills (can buy through a bank, post office or travel agent) or US postage stamps. Bri0626 sells them here on the forum via the Autograph Exchange/Sale section of the forum. The minimum letter cost from US to UK is $1.10 so I use 2x$1.10 stamps on my US requests.

2. Airmail postage is done by weight only. You can take your letter to the PO to be weighed or add on enough stamps to cover postage, the current prices for Airmail to the US are:

Weight up to:

10g: 88p
20g: £1.28
40g: £1.88

So use a combination of UK 1st/2nd stamps to ensure the amount is enough for Airmail postage.

Generally I would do one request per person and not send 2 or 3 in the same envelope.
