US to UK

Unread post by bullitt »

Hi I live in California, and would like to ship to the UK. I know of the IRCs are gone in the US (thanks USPS). So how will I figure out/buy UK stamps? Or is there another way. I'm thinking of one 8x10 photo in a manilla envelope. And when sending it to the UK, can I just use normal US Forever stamps? Or do I have to go into the PO and get special stamps. I have read all these posts/gone to the US/UK PO websites but still just trying figure it out.
Thanks,
:)

OK thanks, so it looks like UK stamps is the best, from eBay. I just can't believe in the year 2013 there is not an easier way to ship stuff from the US to UK. Couldn't you buy postage online from royal mail and then just print off the and put it on the envelope? So after getting the stamps, I put on the number that relates to the weight, it doesn't matter about distance in the US? So on average when you ship to CA, how many stamps do you do for an 8x10?
Thanks,

Printed postage is not good for foreign customers, because it only allows you a few days to post the item, after which it becomes invalid.
You should be able to purchase stamps online through the Royal Mail shop but lots of US members have had problems with this.
International mail is done by weight only and the world is split into two zones, the whole of the US being one. So the prices I already posted in the other thread are the ones you need. It also depends on whether you will be using First Class or Second Class stamps because one is worth £0.60 and the latter is worth £0.50.
I ship to family in NY & NC as well as fan mail all over the US, is always the same priced by weight only.
I see from your OP you were also asking about sending the whole think US to UK, http://www.usps.com price calculator will help you with that or you can take your item to a local post office for assistance.
