Need some advice on 8 x 10 postage in the US.

Unread post by Shook1 »

Hello, new to the board and looking for some advice. I have primarily always done trading cards and index cards TTM, but I recently ordered a large lot of 8 x 10 photos and I'm going to start sending those out. I am shipping inside the US only. I have a few questions and would really really appreciate any feedback.

1. If you ship 8 x 10's from home, how many stamps do you normally use on the initial envelope and the return?
2. Is it easier to just go to the post office and get postage put on both envelopes?
3. Does destination change how many stamps you use or is it generally the same amount of stamps in the US?

I know sending smaller photos and cards works with a regular envelope and a single stamp, but I have to assume I need more postage for an 8 x 10 envelope because of its size.

If there is already a similar thread, I apologize and I will try to find it.

Thank you in advance for any input!!

Have you tried the USPS website?

Alternatively it might be easier as you suggest to do a few through the Post Office in person, then you'll know the prices and can get some stamps to keep at home to use.

The USPS website gives quotes on first class, media, priority and that kind of stuff. I was just looking for personal experience on sending the 8 x 10's with stamps from other forum users.

I'm probably going to try going to the post office with a few this week to see what they say so I can get an idea.

Thanks!

Hi! I've been to the post office a few times to get my envelopes weighed and add postage. Now, I have an okay idea about how many stamps to put. If you include an 8x10 photo, LOR, and an SASE in the envelope it will cost 1.19 (2 forever stamps + 1 0.21 stamp). If you don't have 0.21 cent stamps you can put 3 forever stamp (which would be extra postage, but would cover up to 3 oz). If your SASE includes just an 8x10 photo, it will be exactly an ounce, and cost 2 forever stamps. If you decide to add cardboard, do not go to the post office, or they may charge you 2.32 for your mailer being rigid. Just use 3-4 forever stamps depending on how thick the cardboard you used was. It will still go through.

Thanks so much for the reply's. I sent a few from the post office this week to get an idea and my most common price was around $1.30-$1.40 for the photo and cardboard, both the sending and return envelope and the LOR. I feel if I use 3 forever's and send from home I should be okay.
