UK to USA postage / stamps question please help

Unread post by DR35150 »

Could someone kindly advise me on how much postage costs to send one picture
from the UK to the USA? I would like to start collecting from some of my
favorites in the UK, and am unsure of what to put for return postage
once I can obtain stamps. I cannot seem to get exact pricing information
myself.
What I intend to send are 27 1/2 cm X 21 1/2 cm photo in a 30 cm X
22 1/2 cm envelope with a backboard. I gauge the weight to be 3 oz. (85
grams) please correct me if my conversion is wrong.
What stamps should I look to buy? Any help you can give would be
greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,
Don

www.royal-mail.com/pricefinder will allow you to calculate the cost.

You already have dimensions and weight so you should be fine getting a price {up}

If your item is more than 5mm thick (sounds as if it would be) it would have to go small parcel which is considerably more expensive than letter airmail.

I would recommend getting 1st class or 2nd class stamps. These work like US forever stamps. Current values can be found on the RM website or with a simple google :)

I'm getting it should be about £2.80 for postage. What I'm confused at is what a first class stamp is value wise. I see different amounts. Is there a stamp that is equal to £1.00? If so that would make it easy to just put 3 of those on?

The OP is in the US so purchasing postage from Royal Mail and then printing will not work for them. It expires very quickly so not suitable for someone living abroad.

I believe £1 stamps are available but it depends where you buy them from as they are not as common as 1st/2nd class stamps.

Just do a google search for "uk first class stamp value" and you will find the price. There are also price guides and charts on the RM website.

I get this after filling all my info at Royal Mails website. Very frustrating.
The following items cannot be delivered to addresses outside of the United Kingdom.

I found 25 £1 Stamps for £25. I figured 3 of these would cover my costs. Also had to give my "flat" a name or they wouldn't process anything. lol

After several attempts and finally getting a return message from Royal Mail's website I was able to purchase £.97 or would that be 97p stamps. I had to actually order 25 individual orders of these. When I tried to order a book of stamps they were in different denominations. Is our (USA) postal site as difficult to other countries as the UK is to us? Oh well, can't wait to get these and start sending out requests. Thanks to those that tried to help.
