Quick IRC question...

Unread post by Mighty_Modders »

I finally got round to buying some IRCs yesterday, only problem is they were completely clueless about them at the post office. the guy who served me had no idea what they were and it took all three of them to find them and figure out how to use them.

on it theres two circles, one of the left and one on the right which seem to be where you are meant to stamp it. my french isnt too good but the one on hte left seems to say 'stamp of country of origin' and it has a GB in it, the one on the right is the one they stamped.

i just would like to check with anyone from the uk (as im guessing theyre slightly different from country to country) that they got it right before i post them cos it was a bit worrying watching them try to figure it out  thanks!

Hi Mighty_Modders {up}

I know it can be a bit of a nightmare getting the Post Office to understand IRC's  Rest assured though that the problem is an international one - most mail workers don't know what they are

Basically, the box on the left of the coupon will either be stamped by the Post Office, or if it has a printed country name in it then that is usually fine.

The box on the right will be stamped by the recipient when they cash it in at their Post Office.

Your IRC should look similar to this one (this one is from Canada), yours should have Great Britain or UK in the left hand window.

Hope this helps!

I have exactly the same problem- the Post Office woman just looked right through me and said "International what?!" Then between the 4 of them they eventually worked out what they where!

Then she asked me where she should stamp them!

I might take a picture next time to show them to her...

Paul

hmm...they stamped it on the right where the recepient is meant to then, that shouldnt be a problem should it?

blimey...that was the guy who seemed to know what he was doing who went for that one :P is a bit stupid though that the instructions are printed in french...

Twe4dle- I wouldn't worry too much; I think they could definately send you something back. First of all, they probably know it's difficult in some areas to get an IRC and plus the fact that you have one they'll see your effort =] I think the chances you'll get something back is high.

Comment... I also have to travel and hour to get an IRC in the "nearest" post office. heh. Very helpful discussion, Thanks everybody!

The IRC's from all over the world look exactly the same ... it's just the country and it's initials are different to indicate where the IRC originated from (e.g. AU - Australia, CA - Canada ...)

Luckily I haven't had the same problem that Mighty_Modders or Paul has had. The people who work in Australia Post that have sold me IRC's do know what they are and where to stamp them. They always just tell me that they haven't sold one in ages!!!!
