Do We Need IRC's???

Unread post by rillasrock »

I was wondering. Do you really need the IRC's? Because I was on an autograph collecter's website, and they didn't use IRCs. So do I? Please reply!!

You use IRC's when it's out of the country

Hi rillasrock :D

Welcome to the forum!

It's highly recommended you include some form of return postage with your requests, so whomever you write to can send you something in return.

An IRC or International Reply Coupon is a form of return postage when you send a request to someone outside the country of where you are (e.g. you're in the US and you're sending a request to Canada). Whomever you write to will take the coupon to the post office and exchange it for stamps of their country to stick on your envelope to send something back to you.

If you're sending to someone within your country (e.g. you're in the US and you're sending to someone also in the US) you would normally send a self addressed stamped envelope (SASE) with your request instead.

Sending IRC's or SASE's are a matter of politeness, as not all celebrities will respond without a means of sending something back to you. It can also increase your chance of receiving a reply, especially when sending IRC's as international postage can be expensive.

IRC question...

Unread post by Blackbird74 »

Hi,

I'm living in New Zealand and am wanting to get autographs from a couple of celebs, one in the US and another in the UK. How many IRCs should I enclose for each one?

Thanks very much!

Depends on how much postage costs. Most people use 2 or 3.
Autograph count:
Real: 9
Pre-print: 1
In person: 2

Welcome to the forum Blackbird74 :)

The amount of IRC's depend on what you expect to get back.

I'd recommend also sending a large 9x12 inch SAE with your request if you do not send anything for them to sign. If this is the case, send 2 to 3 IRC's as this will be enough to cover postage of your SAE. You should send this sized envelope in this case as it should fit almost any sized photo that a celebrity may send back to you.

If you are sending something for a celebrity to sign, the amount of IRC's will be variable depending on the size of the items. 1 IRC will cover a standard letter sent via air mail back to you. If you only send small items with a standard sized SAE, you could get away with one. However, anything larger with the relevant SAE will require at least 2 or 3.

I hope this helps.
