Postage help, please.

Hello..

I'm new to this forum, and I have a question, which I hope someone will be kind enough to answer.
I live in Denmark, and I want to write a letter with a SASE to an adress in UK. But I can't find any IRC's at my local postoffice. So my question is; can the SASE get from UK to Denmark with normal danish stamps? Or how should I stamp it?

Hi Line,

No, you cannot use Danish stamps for the return of your envelope from UK to Denmark. You will have to find a post office which sells IRC's, or take a chance on sending a reply envelope with no return postage.

Some celebs will pay your return postage, but many won't!

This has come up a couple of times, and the other option to IRC's or giving no postage at all is to use stamps from whichever country you want a reply - in this case the UK.

I had a look on the Royal Mail website, and they have 'Universal Europe Stamps' which cover a letter up to 40g going anywhere in Europe. I've never used these myself, but they cost £2.40 for a book of 4, and then £1.55 postage.

I've never ordered from here myself, so I don't know what its like for delivery and stuff. If you knew someone from the UK, or someone who was going on holiday here then it would probably be easier to ask them to buy some stamps for you, but this is another option you might consider.

Thanks for the help, both of you.. It seems to be my lucky day, as my best friend is just visiting UK .. I'll just ask her to buy some stamps for me.. I don't know why I hadn't thought about that..

That is lucky! Much easier than trying to find IRC's or oredering something online.

Just to let you know, it costs 42p to send something from here to Europe. You have to make up the 42p from the value of the stamps;

First Class = 30p
Second Class = 21p

So depending on how many letters you're sending, you might want to ask your friend to get you a couple of books of one of them (they comes in sets of 6 or 12).

I was corresponding with somebody else on here a while ago about this very matter, but unfortunately it appears that you can only actually order UK stamps if you are resident in the UK, or overseas - only from a UK-dependant country, or in the British Armed Forces overseas.

From memory, the person I was speaking to was in the US or Canada, and although the website allowed them to order online, they got an email the following day to say that their order had been cancelled.

I don't know why this is the case for certain, but possibly something to do with money-laundering?

They did say however that it might be possible to purchase small quantities from the phillatelists (stamp collecting) section of their website: http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/shop ... y=cat40002

Anyway, it looks as if "Line"got around it by getting a friend to buy them! - Great idea!
