Re: What to put in the letters??
Dear Josie,
This is an excellent question. Here are my tips:
Keep it simple - one paragraph dedicated to why you are a fan is ample. Also, be honest and sincere about your comments. It makes it much easier to write the letter and it will never sound phoney.
Make it clear that you are a collector (more likely to have your item signed personally to you) and more likely to get an autograph if they don't think you are going to turn around and sell it on eBay.
Also, make it really easy. Including your own items to sign, an SASE and I even send a pen. Martin Sheen wrote back to me especially about the pen! Then they have everything right there to sign the item and send it back to you.
Lastly, I print on my letter a small photo of myself above my name and address. I think it makes the letter more personable and it makes you more real as a person, not just someone on paper.
Here is a sample of my basic letter. Hope this is helpful. I have been collecting for 3 years now and I enjoy it even more as time goes by.
Your Name and Address
Dear Ms. ?,
I am a huge fan of your work. (Personal Comments here.)
I started collecting autographs ...
Enclosed please find two photographs from your film...I have enclosed a SASE and even a pen. I hope someday to hand-down 2 generations of my collection to one of my children or grandchildren.
I will truly treasure the autographs!
Thank you so much for your time.
Best regards,
Kay

Re: What to put in the letters??
Just a little tip but I find and I know a few others do, if you put this in a letter you are sometimes not going to get a repsonce basically for the fact that you could sell it on ebay. I would personally miss this part out of any fanmail I send.hemetsphere wrote:Dear Josie,

If you want your letter personlized then just ask them to do so.
Also I don't think it is a very good idea to put a photo of your self in the letter, I mean what if it ends up in the wrong peoples hands, they will know your name, your address and what you look like. Not a very good idea if I am honest with you.
