US zip code

I'm mailing to Indiana, and I found this zip code: Bloomington, IN 47405-2200
What does the "-2200" mean? I thought that there are only 5 numbers in a zip code.

zip codes do have 4 more numbers. I think it is to help narrow down the area for the post office guys, you know. it's not necessary to add it, but you can if you want.
