I'm new. I need some help and tips.

Unread post by poshantagonist »

Hey! I'm new at this fan mailing activity. I'm not really sure how to go about. I do have a few questions and it would be great if someone can answer them for me.

1) Do celebrities provide you with a picture and signature when you send them a fan mail without any photos or do you have to provide your own?
2) Does it matter if it's type-written or hand-written? Which is better?
3) How long does it usually take before they reply?
4) Can someone suggest some best autograph signers who lives in the UK?

to answer your questions
1. it depends who the celebrity is, some will send pictures if you don't and some wont
2. it's a pain in the butt but it's better to have a hand-written letter because you will have a higher chance of getting a reply. it shows you've put a lot of thought into it and took the time to write them.
3. it takes anywhere from 1 week to 1 year. it just depends how busy they are.
4. Bonnie Wright who plays in harry potter as ginny weasley is wonderful as are Oliver and James Phelps the one who plays the Weasley twins. Rowan Atkinson is wonderful too (although he sends out preprints)

Hope this helps :) {thumb2}

Hi and welcome to fanmail. Please try to post in the correct forum, "Feedback" is for reporting success/failure, I'll move this to the "Collecting Help" forum.

1) Some do, some dont, it really depends on the celeb.
2) Hand written is better, as typed letters can come across as "mass produced". However a lot of people use typed letter with success.
3) No way of telling, too many variables.
4) Write to people you're a fan of. Think who you like, then you'll have a list. We dont know who you like, so we cant suggest anyone.

Also be sure to check out the sticky threads in this forum, they have a lot of information helpful to new collectors.

I don't usually provide my own picture unless I'm writing to a venue.
Plus, how can you send their signature :lol:

2) Does it matter if it's type-written or hand-written? Which is better?
I use my hands unless I've done something to my wrist/hand. If you handwrite it, the writing can look bigger :mrgreen:

3) How long does it usually take before they reply?

Some can take up to a week, some can take years

4) Can someone suggest some best autograph signers who lives in the UK?
If you tell us who you want, then we can almost definitely answer. Most soccer players and a few film/TV stars.

I hope I helped, and good luck with your collecting {up}
If you need any help, feel free to PM me

hey poshantogist! Welcome to the boards!

1) Do celebrities provide you with a picture and signature when you send them a fan mail without any photos or do you have to provide your own?
Yes, usually they do.

2) Does it matter if it's type-written or hand-written? Which is better?
It is preferred that you write it so they know you took the time to show support. ;-)

3) How long does it usually take before they reply?
The least is about 3 months but it can take longer (up to years) or it can take a week or so, too!

4) Can someone suggest some best autograph signers who lives in the UK?
Maybe Keira Knightley or Judi Dench. Other than them, I don't know a lot of British signers. Sorry :(
