Sending Photos

Unread post by Gaunt »

I know some people send photos, and others don't, but I'm just wondering, what do most of you do?

I'm just starting off and I don't know wheter to get a photo I like and send it, or hope that they send one I like!

And another question. You know how you can get photos printed from your camera in camera shops? Is it possible for them to print off ordinary images (such as pictures of celebs) if I brought in a CD full of them? I don't know if this is a good idea, seeing as they will be glossy like real photos...

What do all you guys do?

Thanks in advance. :D

I usually send photos for the celebrity to sign, I think it makes it easier and more personal so you know you're not receiving a pre-signed picture. I print off my own at home onto glossy paper, they look great signed. I would imagine any photo shop would print off as many photos as you would like, but there may be copyright issues with some shops. You could contact them prior to your visit to see their policies and price different printing options.

Good Luck! {up}

I might call into my local camera shop and see what they say! Thanks.

By the way, what is the "normal" size photo to send?

There isn't really a 'normal' size. It really depends which picture you plan on getting printed. Obviously it's cheaper to get for example, a 6x4 than an 8x6 printed. If your picture is very high quality then I would print a bigger picture, if it's low quality then I'd recommend a smaller size.

A majority of the time I do send photos. To save me money, I send a 4x6 photo because it fits in a 4.5x9 envelope. Other larger photos are more costly to print as well as send, because you need a larger envelope and larger SASE.
I send to a lot of celebs on Broadway (where they don't have their own photos), via venue (again where they don't have their own photos) or to people most wouldn't consider celebs (military, Tuskegee, etc) so I send something.

*However* I check here for feedback and see if a celeb is sending a photo that I really like. In those cases, I'll send just a SASE. Example - Law and Order - they send great headshots/scenes.

Typically, I print my own, but I also like to print them out using Snapfish.com

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Would it be acceptable to take a "screenshot" from a scene in a movie/tv show and print that out and send it to them, or is that unacceptable?

The reason I ask is that some autographs that I want, the actors don't have any good photos online, and in some cases none at all!

Also I thought it would be cool to have my favourite actor sign a photo of him/her in my favourite scene!

Yeah, that would be fine. You can send any picture of your choice really, just not inappropriate or rude ones. :)

I never used to send photo's with my request, but now I send at least one with every request. I find that I get back more requests if I send my own photo. A lot of celebs have there own stock photo's, but a lot of others don't.

Bring in a cd to your local Walgreen's/Walmart, they will be more than happy to print off as many celebrity photo's as you want. Usually they have you sign a copyright form. This is to save their own behinds. They have never given me a problem.

If you are worried about using glossy photo's, get a matte finish. They might cost a few cents more, but it might be worth it in your case.

Thanks for the help.

Which do you think looks better, matte or glossy? And which do you guys send?

Sorry if I seem to be asking a lot of questions but I just want to get it right the first time round! :D
