General Questions

Unread post by bullitt »

Hi,
I was wondering what the percentage of requests are actually fulfilled, and how many of those are authentic autographs. I was also wondering if you send a picture, if your chances of getting an authentic autograph go up, and will they just return the picture if they already have a autopen one. Also can you send the same picture to multiple actors, say if you want it on a movie poster, and you want 3 people of the cast. Also if there are two locations to send the request which one do you send it for, for example Brad Pitt. Could you send it to both? Also is there a cheap way to have a professional person/company look at the picture to see if they are real. Also is there a running list of who signs authentic and a list of who doesn't.
Thanks, :D

Hi bullitt, welcome to the boards. ;-)

{star} Really your chance of getting a reply to your fanmail, and an authentic one just depend on who you're writing too.
You can search any celebrity in the fanmail database to see their reply rate, and weather or not they send back authentic signatures.
{star} In most cases sending a photo will not increase your chance of getting a reply. Most people just include photos because they want a favorite photo signed. But almost all celebrities have a stack of photos they send out, weather they authentically sign them or not.
If you include a photo and they don't sign it..there's no real way of knowing if you'll get it back. So, be careful about sending anything too important to you.
{star} If you want multiple signatures on the same photo you can try, but I for one probably wouldn't risk it. I'd just look at the reply rate of the second person you want to send it too and see how great of a chance you have of getting it back.
{star} Check successes from a celeb to see which address works best for them. You can always try more than one, but usually only one is working at a time. However, you can try them at multiple places Via Venue. Meaning say someone is on a concert tour, or filming a movie. You can write to the location where they are performing/filming, and hope your request is passed on to them.
{star} If you post a picture of your success here on fanmail, people around here can probably help to tell you if your autograph is authentic.
Most Wanted: Hilary Duff, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Demi Lovato, J.K. Rowling, Paul McCartney, Suzanne Collins, Cast of; LOST, Psych, and the Vampire Diaries
Fave Successes: David Archuleta (IP), Miep Gies, Jordin Sparks, Glenn Beck, Adam Lambert, The Veronicas (IP)

How do you check the reply rate, and the authenticity? Also if you call the company that represents an actor etc... will they, answer the phone and talk to you, and if so will they give you an honest answer if their client will truly sign the picture etc...
Thanks,

Is there a list (in one location) that is uptodate about who signs authentic autographs and who doesn't? Will you actually get any information calling those phone numbers listed with the celebrity addresses?
Thanks,

This is where our own research has to come in to play. I collect & save HUNDREDS of autograph examples to my computer that the members post on here and I like to compare the diffrences between the ones received TTM (Through-The-Mail) & the one obtained IP (In-Person) After a while you can start to see similarities and certain handwriting styles which makes it easier to determin if the person your writing to signs authentic.

And yes, generally the numbers listed with the addresses do work for agencies. I like to call and confirm I have the correct address, as there's been several times a member will accidently type the wrong zip code or street address and then other members will get RTS's/ So it's always best to do your research. {up}

Is there a current list that shows successes etc... for posts or not, because I don't want to spend time/money buying/printing these posters/pictures if I will either get a fake or nothing back.
Thanks,
RYAN J.

Yes. It's right here:

http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/search.ph ... d=newposts

As soon as you log in there's the link at the top that says "View New Posts" This will tell you who's signing and what the type of success they got back.

Thanks, is it pretty much impossible to get a real brad pitt autograph? Is it also crazy to get a real clint eastwood, johhny depp, Zoe Saldana, James Cameron, Russel Crowe, Christian Bale, Denzel Washington, arnold shwart., tom hanks, Daniel Day Lewis, Jack Nicholson, Anthony Hopkins, Jon Voight, Eric Roberts, Val Kilmer, Harrison Ford, Ving Rhames, Jeff Bridges, Leonardo DiCapreo, Kate Beckinsale, Quinton Teritino, Sam Jackson, Will Smith, John Travolta, or Jessica Alba autograph? I have looked through the posts for hours but can't find many, and the few I can I don't get a real good feel. I would be appreciative if people who have hundreds or thousands of autographs would tell me from their experience, because I am sure many of them you guys have written to.

I have read of some places to get pics printed for them to sign but is there a standard place where I can get one to be printed. Also, is there a US store that generally doesn't mind printing copyrighted material, because I have had pretty bad luck in the past, and it is pretty obvious that it copyrighted.

Celebrities That Usually Don't Reply TTM

BTW, to answer one of your posts, there is a debate (well, not really.) on whether Travolta and Eastwood's sigs are really authentic. I guess if you send to them Via Venue (like through a film set/play/etc) or get lucky and find them in person, we'll know for sure!

Hope you enjoy this hobby!

So if you send to the venue for those two, then you get real ones for sure, and the others are debated?
Thanks,
