Help me!!!!!!!

Today I got a VV back from a band called Theory of a Deadman. The pic I sent was pretty glossy but I knew the autographs on it would look good and go on well. Well I got it back and there just not permanent on the picture. I touched the end of one sig ever so lightly and it sharpie came off...Is there anything i can do to help bond it or preserve this?

I don't know if it can be preserved other than putting it into a pvc-free plastic sleeve or toploader. Leave it in there and never take it out.

Sometimes glossy surfaces need to be prepped before sending them out.

Sometimes sharpies especially silver don't stick to glossy photos and rub off, It is usually silver sharpie that does this.The only thing you can do to keep it from rubbing off is frame it in a matted frame where the signatures dont touch the glass or anything because if you put it in a toploader type thing they will still be rubbing against the sleeve.

Was the photo one you printed off your computer?? That would probably explain why it's coming off. The ink from home printers creates a barrier between the photo and the paper which doesn't let the sharpier adhere to the paper itself. That's why I reccomend having photos done professionally at a store and use the Matte Type photo finish. I've had that happen to me before and it's not cool. There's really no way to prevent it from coming off. :neutral:

I had major problems with a couple of silver penned autographs,i found you can protect them and make them more stable with a spray of hairspray.......honestly it does work,i have done it.

Once it is in a toploader it will not rub against anything. It will remain stationary inside the toploader. That is, unless you put it on an old record player and set the dial for 78 RPM or so.

You could use a spray fixative (used to fix charcoal/pastel/graphite drawings). Hairspray will, as mightyswagman said, work in a pinch.

So just spray over it and itll create a protective layer over the autograph? Obviously id have to shoot it far away. Just afraid the force of the spray would mess the autograph more. But thanks guys spray is good idea.

Does spray actually work to hold ink in place? I use it all the time to fix graphite images but in the past I've used hairspray to remove permanant ink from furniture/material etc. and it's removed the ink completely.

EDIT: If you are going to use spray, however, I would test it on a sample of ink on the same type of paper. Good luck!
