SASE size confusion
It says in one of the stickies that it should be 9 by 12 inches. But wouldnt that mean you would have to send an even bigger oriinal envelope in the first place so that the SASE would fit? if someone could please let me know how they send it would be great. I sent out fanmail to about 10 people 6 months ago. A regular sized photomailer which included a letter, photo, and a SASE, but that was small, papper, and was just the size for like a greeting card, but the photo would fit. I recieved nothing back. so im going to try again and try to get nothing wrong. could someone please tell me where i went wrong? thanks sooo much

Re: SASE size confusion
Simple, you just fold the 9x12 SASE in half and slide it in your other envelope.
I fold my 9x12 SASE's three times and fit them in a standard #10 business envelope.

does folding it really work? will they use the envelope? and also, what size envelope do you insert your folded envelope into?RYAN J. wrote:Simple, you just fold the 9x12 SASE in half and slide it in your other envelope.I fold my 9x12 SASE's three times and fit them in a standard #10 business envelope.

Sure! Won't hurt the SASE one bit. all they have to do is unfold and bend it back the other way to make it stay flat again. Like I mentioned above, I put my folded SASE's in a #10 Standard Business envelope. or you can use a 6x9 envelope too.

I never of thought of folding a 9 x 12 four times...what a great idea! Saves on 9 x 12s, too! Thanks for the tip!

Your welcome! I'm always trying to find new ways to cut down on the postage costs with this hobby.

Re: SASE size confusion
just like he said you just fold the envlope three times that is what i do. sometimes i fold it once to make it not so big but most of the time i do fold them three times.
Re: SASE size confusion
I just wanted to address the above portion of your post. If you are sending your own photo, then you can use an envelope that the photo or card fits into for your SASE. Just be aware that sometimes the celebrity will prefer to substitute another photo for yours (for whatever reason). That's why the "stickied advice" says to send an envelope big enough to accept an 8x10 photo.Panthers55 wrote:I sent out fanmail to about 10 people 6 months ago. Ryan's advice is okay if you are not sending your own photo but are relying on the celebrity to send one of their own. Some do, some don't. I personally don't like the idea of folding the SASE since I consider it a recipe for disaster, even if I use my Do Not Bend stamp. Then and again, I always send something to be signed anyway, so I use a 10x13 outer envelope and a 9x12 photo mailer envelope for the SASE.
As for whether you got a return or not, that's another topic that relates to the celebrity's signing habits.

Re: SASE size confusion
I also do not fold the 9x12. The reason is because usps might bend/fold/curl the 9x12 envelope. So I use a "white" backer board in the 9x12 so that the usps can't bend or curl the envelope and gives the 8x10 a little more protection. I then put all that in a 10x13 envelope. I address and stamp the 9x12...if I'm sending or receiving one 8x10 photo with backer board the postage is $1.22 so I use a $1 stamp and a $0.28 stamp. If it's a multi-signed item I used more protection thus costing more $ to ship and return but well worth it!
