Writing To Celebs

Unread post by OnlyMe »

Hi Everyone,

I've tried searching the boards to find the answer to my question but couldn't find it so I thought I would post. Hope you don't mind me posting.

I was just wondering when writing to a celebrity to ask for an autograph, what should I say and put in my letter.

I've often started writing a letter saying that I'm a fan of their's and how much I admire them and their work. But when I come to asking for the autograph I never know what to say  and always feel cheeky

My question is what should I say in my letter and how should I ask for an autograph?

I would really be grateful for your help and thankyou for reading my message.

Hi OnlyMe,
Here is an example of a fan letter you can use to help you write to celebrities.

Dear (Celebrity's Name),
I'm a huge fan of yours. I love your (What they are in or wha type of music they sing). You are one of my favorite (actors, actress, or bands).
I was wondering if you could please send me an auotgraphed picture. I would greatly appreciate it. Keep up the cool (acting or music).
I hope you'll write back when you have some free time. I look forward to hearing from you.
Your #1 fan,
(Your name)

I hope this helps answer your question. Good luck.

Hi OnlyMe :D

Welcome to the forum :D

When you write a letter to a celebrity, the one thing you don't want to do is to make it sound like a form letter - that is, practically writing the same letter to every celebrity and filling in blanks where required.

I would suggest you start your letter by introducing yourself - e.g. who you are, where you're from... Then move onto what/why you like the specific celebrity's work, complement them etc.

In some point in your letter, ask for an autographed photo. You can say something like: "It would mean a lot to me if you could kindly take a moment to send an autographed photo" or something like that (modify it to match the rest of your letter.)

At the end of the letter, don't forget to thank them for their time to read your letter and wish them all the best.

With any letter - make it sound personal, and that you mean what you say!

Good luck!

I think that adding the "Your #1 Fan" is a little cheesy, but that's just my opinion.

It really depends on the nature of your letter.

I wouldn't put "Your #1 Fan" on any of my letters - it doesn't sound right to me (or the tone of my letters.)

Usually I write something like I am a fan of your work in...or something similar to that.

I pretty much follow along the lines of what everyone has said here.

Often I'll check IMDB to jog my memory of what they've been in, and what they've been up to, eg. "I loved you in XXX, and I see you starred with Y in Z recently - that must have been an experience" or something like that.

And when it comes to asking for the autograph I'll just say something like "if its not too much bother, could I trouble you for an autograph?".

Most of the time though the letters just 'write themselves' so to speak, I don't try and follow any set pattern as then it becomes too much like a 'form letter'.
