For the envelope to the celeb I do write a return address, that way if I get a RTS it comes back to me.

For the envelope from the celeb, I don't put on a return address, no.

I know it is common in the US but not so much here in the UK :)

In theory in the UK, your item will be returned anyway if the celeb/agent RTS's it as Royal Mail just slit your envelope open and get the address from your SASE or letter.

Can someone help me out here? Let's say it costs me $1.10 to send a letter from the US to the UK.

How much UK postage do I exactly need to leave on the SASE? I am just sending a 5X7 photo, so it's the cheapest way possible.

The prices for UK to USA are £0.88 up to 10g, £1.28 11 to 20g and £1.88 21g-40g.

Ideally weigh your picture & return envelope and then convert to grams to get the exact price.

If it is borderline I would go to the next price band up, have to allow the weight of the stamps, celeb might add a picture or tape to the envelope etc.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Your best bet is buying some UK stamps from eBay. Some people trade on here, but you need to be careful with that... you never know what will happen.

I just bought my stamps on eBay. Sure, you have to pay a little extra (the seller needs to make a profit, after all), but it was quick and easy.

We have a mail postage machine at work, so I'm probably going to weigh my envelopes with that. It should be pretty darn accurate...

I've got my envelopes and photos, just waiting on my stamps now.

Any last minute tips for me in general? How brief do you guys keep your letters? I figured half a page to one page (handwritten) would be advisable, but then I see people here talking about how they wrote a 3 page letter, and I'm like...really? I figured that would be a big no-no.

How do you guys phrase your request for an autograph, too? Trying to find the best, most polite way to ask.

Letters are very individual to the person but here is what I do:

No longer than 1 1/2 pages on a small notepad.

I begin by asking if they could please sign the enclosed photo and return in the SASE provided.

I mention i'm a big fan of theirs, and name a few roles/shows I particularly enjoy, maybe note a few traits i love about how they portray x character, mention my anticipation of upcoming projects if appropriate etc.

I then thank them for taking the time to read my letter- on VV requests I add something like "since you are busy with filming/play I really appreciate it".
