Hi Sam
Remember - only send out what you can afford to lose.
If you want to risk sending out the shirt and not getting it back ... go ahead.
I've never sent a shirt out to be signed, but would assume just to ensure your envelopes are durable and thick so the shirt doesn't get damaged in transit there or back.
Perhaps someone who has sent out a shirt in the past can help with a few tips.

I read some where that Charlton doesn't sign 66 shirts

Man * is not a term United fans refer to themselves as. The term is only used by other supporters as a complete and utter insult to our club. The "u" is meant to be "you" by the rival fans.
An early example was from WBA fans: "Duncan Edwards is manure, rotting in his grave, man you are manure- rotting in your grave". The origin of "Man Utd" is a song to insult the dead Duncan Edwards.
Liverpool and Leeds fans copied this with their own man you /u versions to insult all of the lads who died at munich.
"Man * Man * went on a plane Man * Man * never came back again"
and..
"Man * Never Intended Coming Home" (if you combine the first letter of each word you get the word "munich").
So... Please REFRAIN from using this term ever again!!!!!!!!

Correct- you have no chance of him signing it.

Re: SENDING A FOOTBALL SHIRT TO BE SIGNED.
Sam, as others have already said - he will not sign the '66 shirts. Rather just send him a photo to be signed because then you know you're on the safe side

AUTHENTIC, OR NOTHING AT ALL.

Before you send anything of sentimental value through the mail. Write to the person and ask if they would sign it. If they agree, then send it at your own risk. There is always a chance of it getting lost or damaged.

Over 9,000 requests sent since 1986.

The replica England 1966 shirts are fairly cheap so not really of any sentimental value, the white ones are something like £25 and a tenner more for red, and Toffs have a sale on at the minute at their shop.
Mr Charlton is very clever with his response when asking him to sign the shirts, he doesn't specifically state he's not going to sign it, but won't post up his response because others who have never met him will claim it as their own info. =p
Other members of the squad will sign it in-person (for free outside convention environment), but you might be asked for a dedication first...
There is no point in writing to Charlton to ask if he'll sign a shirt- he will, just not the old-style 1966 ones. Send a £4 2008 England shirt and see what happens... ;) Though you might get it back dedicated in Biro lol for the exact same reason as he won't sign the '66 replicas.
