UK Postage Assistance

Hey guys :D

I am trying to work out the return postage from the UK (London) to Australia (Sydney).

At the moment, I've got £1.72 in UK stamps and I was wondering if this is sufficient enough to cover this trip with an A4 sized paper printout, 2 DVD covers (not the entire DVDs themselves) and a manilla folder to protect these items. I am not sure how much these will all weigh up to. The return envelope will also be big enough to fit all these items in without folding them.

I've also got one first class UK stamp, which I have read is worth 34p. I am considering adding this with the £1.72, but I'm not sure if I am allowed considering it is a 'first class' stamp :? Please correct me if I'm wrong :lol:

Lastly, could someone please confirm that the postage to my destination is measured only by the weight of the envelope and its contents, and not by the size (directly) itself?

Thanks all! 8) {up}

hi

Here is the price list of the UK Royal Mail:
http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/cont ... tId=400036

As you have £1.72 plus the first class stamp, you are able to cover the postage of a package about 60-80g. Maybe you could try weighting your letters at your local post office to get the accurate weight.

Hope it's useful to you. {thumb2}

You can add first class stamps to other priced stamps. It's actually worth 36p now.

Post internally IS measured via size too... but only by way of it's either a "small" letter or a "large" letter (and then up to "package" if it's thicker than 25ml). A5 would be small, A4 would be large. This means you need to use a "large" stamp (basically just a slightly bigger stamp & costs more at 52p) on large items to cover the size. However, for airmail letters, this is not an issue, it's all done on weight.

You have £2.08 worth of stamps, which means you can send anything under 80g. Weigh your letter , and add the correct postage:

Under 80g: £2.08
Under 60g: £1.64
Under 40g: £1.22

Cheers for the help, guys! {up}

Just another question... would the large stamps be necessary? I'm using what seems to be an A3 sized envelope, or could I just get away with the small stamps?

Cheers! :D

As I mentioned before, the "large" stamps are only 1st class or 2nd class, and only for internal mail. As you're sending airmail (UK to Australia) you can use the stamps you have.
