Playbill Size

Unread post by starman »

Hello everybody! ;-)
I'm a musical fan and I'm thinking about starting a signed Playbill collection.

All I want to know is:

 What is their size?
 When we make a request, do the artists usually provide the Playbill or do we have to send ours?

Thanks in advance!
Regards,

Hello :)

The size of the broadway playbills is about 5x8 inches and I know that if you send a request to the show and ask for a signed playbill they will likely send you. :) But as I know only the broadway theatres send out playbills.

1) They will fit in a 5x7 envelope, as they're around that size.

2) If you ask them for a playbill, and didn't give a photo, they'll put it in your SASE

Good luck! I don't collect playbills, as for some reason they slip out of my binder easily. Haha, I only have one!

OK Everyone has been incorrect thus far.

One playbill will fit perfectly in a 6 x 9 envelope. Absolutely nothing smaller.

When writing to a particular actress, such as Ms. Lauren Graham (of Gilmore Girls), who is currently featured in the Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls, you can write to her sending a 6x9 or larger, requesting a Playbill or perhaps a headshot (which fit in 9x12s).

If you're writing to the stage manager, only send a SASE and your Letter of Request for one. One will fit perfectly in that 6 x9, but it looks like you're not from the United States. Please note that not all shows respond internationally.

There is a thread on this, under Autograph Collecting labeled as Playbill COllectors. More notes & tips can be seen there!

Will they fit in a C5 envelope?

Not sure, but I'm assuming you could easily look that up.

A playbill is about 8.5 x 5.5-ish inches. Most aren't that full, but if you are writing to a show with the cast the size of something like Les Miserables or this year's A Tale of Two Cities, they tend to be a little bigger (width wise, which is less than .5 inches actually usually). There's pretty much no big-cast shows though anymore...go figure !
