Printing photos online

Hello everyone...

I normally print my photos at home to send but id like to print them professionally so i can store them in a photo album if i order them 6x4.

I live in the UK. Ive been exploring and researching 3 sites that i can use:

http://www.kodakgallery.co.uk
http://www.snapfish.co.uk
http://www.asda.co.uk under photos.

If anyone can give me any advice on which one to use then i'll be greatful or list the pros and cons of each site.
When i sign up you get free pictures from the first two sites ive mentioned. Do you have to pay for delivery costs? I cant seem to find it on the websites?

At the moment im leaning towards using snapfish. You get 20 free photos and the costs after that are only 9p per photo where as kodakgallery is 19p i think. Asda is ideal but ive heard they have a strict copyright policy.

Also if you are uploading them online to be printed, do you have to find 6x4 celebrity photos so you can get a 6x4 printed. Or can you upload any size celeb photo and they can make it into a 6x4 (but that could look bad) :P

Any information you can give me will be brilliant,
Thankyou {up}

Asda do have a strict copyrighting policy... if you take photos into the store. I have had photos printed with their online service multiple times with no problem. I can't comment on the other sites as I havent used them. The Asda photos are pretty good, and aren't shiny (shiny ones annoys me) and the delivery is pretty quick (and reasonably priced). You can also use Boots http://www.bootsphoto.com/. Their photos are shiny (only used them once because of it). You get 40 free prints if you sign up today though (thereafter 6p pp). Asda are also doing 40 free prints at the moment.

I got an extra question at the bottom of my first post, would you know the answer?

Thanks so much

Well of course images you'll find online are going to be in pixels rather than inches. The general rule I follow is anything higher than 1024x768 will be fine for 6x4. In fact, I once tried to use something lower on one of the sites and the uploader rejected it saying it was too low. If you printed 10x8 you'd need a higher resolution.

If you upload a picture that isnt the same format as 6x4 (perhaps its in widescreen) dont worry as they wont squash it to print, you will move/resize the image and chose which bit to print. Have a play around with the uploaders to see what I mean.

Thank you for sharing about Asda photos, Osiris. :) I have printed in store at Boots and found them overly glossy. I have ordered online at Tesco and they came within a few days and were very reasonable. The only downside is that they tend to be very shiny and so I am worried about sending some of them unless I know the celebrity uses a sharpie or something.

Good luck EastendersFan, hope you find what you're looking for! Let me know how they come out as I am interested in looking into other sites too.

Thanks for all your replies :)

So how come you don't like photos to be very glossy?

I think, seens you have tried boots and asda i will try snapfish and kodakgallery and I will let you know how they come out. Seens they are free its worth a try.

Thanks again {thumb2}

I don't like pictures to be really glossy as the pen can wear off of them much easier than if they were matte or semi-gloss. :?

I find you tend to get glare on the glossy ones :)

O yeah of course. If you used like a black marker it can just come off when you touch it. If they sign in biro it shouldnt be a problem :)

Mathew Horne signed a Kodak glossy picture for me with a black sharpie and there are no smudges. I could rub my finger on it it and it still won't smudge.
